I also remember the threads about 09 Abyss and Mirror Mirror, Short's Cup a Joe and Key Lime Pie, and Duck Rabbit Milk Stout and Rabid Duck. How about you?

Your question was pretty open and @pmoney provided an adequate answer.

this. Thank you! which i realize to some is extreme but i put most of my 2015 BCBS variants and all in the fridge. what i left out should be ok, my garage has been running low 40s anyway with this barrage of frigid weather.

besides the mention of possible different concentrations of the potential problem at different points in the bottling process, the next biggest factor explaining why this bottle is o.k versus that one bad REGARDLESS OF TIME-STAMP, batch ignorance etc, would almost certainly be the transportation & storage conditions of individual cases/bottles since leaving GI. many stores were forced to back-stock product until official release date, some have squirreled them out a few at a time over a period of time too. depending on how things were kept (including in your possession since purchase), potential problems may have been kept at bay or exacerbated. i have a feeling these factors are playing a significant role in good vs. bad & why the time-stamp really isn't all that relevant at this juncture. bottom line is (if) the issue is present at all, heat will speed the process along. time will also increase risk. you can't stop time, you can control temp & storage conditions though. the fridge is your friend.

So what was your question then? Are you wondering if other people have opened bottled that were packaged within the same minute as yours? It's not like you provided the date anyways. If you read the previous pages, it's pretty clear that there is huge variance in this year's bottles, and the time stamp on your particular bottle doesn't provide much (if any) guidance on what you should expect from the beer within.

Definitely the 09 Abyss, and I had the infected Duck Rabbit Stout, that wasn't a rumor, they sent out a lot of swag to customers on that one. It also ran into their Milk Stouts which I sent as xtras in a trade. It happens.

Do breweries hold back on a certain number of cases from each batch in case of this do so they can investigate and sample?

I do remember some of those threads and indeed some beers become infected, which may very well be the case with 2015 bcbcs, but so far all we've established is a large variance in the quality of some bottles. I think we just need to relax a little bit is all, based on our examples it can and has in the past gone either way.

Bottled 17/SEP/15, time stamp 1234 - infected. Could smell it the moment I opened the bottle. Two sips, plus one for the wife to make sure this thread (which I have been following carefully) hadn't somehow magically made me think that my precious - the only BCBCS I scored this year - was infected, and the rest drain poured. Happy New Year my ass!

Normally I would agree. And I am not one of those folks who automatically jumps on the bandwagon. But to me it is purely a case of "walks, talks, and looks like a duck." The symptoms reported in this thread are the exact symptoms that were reported about each of the beers I referenced, and it just seems logical to want to warn folks that they need to take precautions with their beer to minimize the possible consequences. Do you own any of this beer? If you do, have you now moved it to the fridge, and are you now planning to drink it in the near future?

I can tell you that despite my serious desire to try a 2015 BCBCS, I won't be seeking it out via trade due to this risk. It was one of the primary reasons I awoke at 4:00 am on Black Friday, drove 30 mins to the release party in St. Louis and stood in the 40 degree rain for 3 hours waiting for the chance to pay for one bottle of this beer. I'd rather drink what I know to be good than trade for something that might be bad.

Just cracked one open...stamp 1701. Definitely on its way to that cherry tartness. Disappointing as when I had it fresh and from draft, it was incredible. Jared Jankoski should be ashamed.

@cavedave I have a single bottle of this years along with a 2013 and 2014 was going to do a mini verticle at a homebrew club meeting on the 7th I have not moved it to the fridge as of yet I'm confident at least in my case I will be unaffected since I'll be drinking it soon. I'm hoping nothing is wrong for those that wished to hang onto it longer. I will be reporting back here after I drink it. I had it fresh on tap on black Friday so if anything is off I should be able to tell.

    17/sep/15 1759 coffee yummy delicious.
Had 2 other people taste it that weren't aware of the infection theories just in case of bias. No issues whatsoever!

Agreed here. Specific to BCS, always put your BCBS variants in the fridge right away if at all possible (esp coffee).

Kinda crazy the Ft forum has so much BC Coffee, lol, why is that? And the asking prices are high with great beers on speculation that it's not tainted. Usually The Coffee is one tough pull.

Really shitty if people are now trying to unload their BCBCS because they think it could be infected.

Agreed - people need to let their trade partner know. I am sending out 2 separate trades on Monday, but I have drunk 2 bottles from my haul already (that were fine), both trade partners know about the issue and this thread, and both trades are $4$, so no-one is out too badly.

Informed consent and all that - but my personal experience has been that it is delicious (having another one this weekend) so as long as you tell your partner about the discussion they can make up their own mind...
