G.I. would love to have a few of your, bottles of BCBCS to run test on them ! I know here in Texas @ my liquor store (Spec's), has taken back a bad batch of beer & gave me my money back . I'm sure by now G.I. is on top of this and testing batch after batch to see what they come up with ! G.I. has stated they had to dump some of the - BCBCS this year . So there was for sure less in Texas this year than last few years for sure. I think we will hear from G.I. - P.R.- peeps soon !!! The reg. BCBS is drinking well now , had on tap & bottles both. from reading other post here , the variants were not all up to par! This year ! Except for the RARE !!! :grinning:

Ok, so I was able to get two bottle of Coffee this year. Both from the same store, and both were bottled on the same day within ONE minute of each other. Here are my experiences with the two.

Bottle 1, 17/SEP/15 6:02pm (1802): Bought in Indianapolis on Black Friday, sat at Room Temp (72-74F) for 2 days before it made it to the fridge, and then consumed 2 days after that. It was excellent lots of coffee roast, barrel character, and a very subtle fruitiness that I have no doubt was from the type of beans, as I also tried the coffee and it had the same fruitiness. It was great!

Bottle 2, 17/SEP/15 6:01pm (1801): Bought in Indianapolis on Black Friday, sat at Room Temp (68-70F) until yesterday morning (2/JAN/16) when I got back from vacation on immediately put it in the fridge, before I drank it last night (same day). Immediately noticed that there wasn't as strong of a coffee smell. Much more carbonation than the first bottle, but not a gusher, just more head that lasted longer. The taste was sour cherry. No barrel, little to no coffee roast, but a strong tart cherry with a lot of funk. I couldn't finish it.

I have absolutely no doubt that the storage conditions of the second bottle accelerated whatever was happening in that bottle. My thoughts are that both of my bottles were probably bad, but I drank the first bottle soon enough to beat the symptoms. As several people before me in this thread have stated, the time stamp probably doesn't matter much as to whether you have a good or bad bottle, but the STORAGE CONDITIONS probably play a huge role in whether it is good or bad NOW (as I had two bottles that were bottled within one minute of each other that tasted wildly different but were also stored differently). Obviously I don't know for sure, and I am very interested to see what Goose says this week.

    Just my two cents.

    Cheers!

I had 2 bottles in LA from this year and both were absolutely perfect. I came up to Portland for the Holidays and we tried 2 of my sisters BCBCS and both were no good one was a serious gusher, the other just slightly but was still off. Our infected bottles were #1457 and were picked up from Johns Market and The Growler Guys.

So what are your thoughts on drinking currently stored bottles? What has happened with infections in the past?

Keep them and potentially get some cash back, or drink them asap.... hmmm

i'm hanging to the two bottles (unopened) i have until i hear some sort of announcement from GI, assuming they follow up. they did already acknowledge people's question. we'll see if they do some sort of exchange program.

Honestly, GI's customer service has most definitely improved since their purchase. Not that it wasn't good prior, but i noticed them going above and beyond. I have some faith of them doing good.

that being said, i moved my 2 bottles from the cellar to the fridge. just in case it takes a turn for the worst and i have to drink/open them. At least the fridge will delay further whatever the hell is happening to the bottles of coffee.

btw, i also saw some facebook posts about barleywine being gushers/infection tasting. any one try a bottle recently?

Has anyone heard from GI? Refunds, credits, replacements ???? Had one two weeks ago. Pretty tart and lots of head and carb. But as it warmed it drank ok. Had one last night. Oh boy it's definetly infected. Tart tart pepper. Way over carbed. Cap was sticky too. Would have probably rusted if it sat longer. Man 18$ down the drain.

Question - can we clarify what the number after the bottled on date is? Is this the time stamp or the barrel number?

If it is indeed the time stamp then throwing these numbers out is pretty much useless...

If you didn't see it, Josh Noel from the Chicago Tribune spoke with GI last week and posted this on FB and Twitter:
"Josh Noel @joshbnoel - 31 Dec 2015 ... Confirmation from @GooseIsland of inquiries regarding potential off flavors in BCBS Coffee. Conducting tests. Answers by early next week."

Has anyone ever heard a brewery publicly use the word "infection" to describe their infected beer? I have read a bunch of euphemisms over the years, but pretty obvious lawyers advise these companies not to use that word. Ever.

Well, yeah of course. 'Not up to our high quality standards' sounds a lot better than 'infected' because most people don't understand the minor miracle it is that so many barrel aged beers aren't infected. Can't blame them for not taking a dump on their own reputations while trying to fix a problem...

I can live with weasel words and marketing speak if it means they own up to problems and try and make it right...

Infection means something else to the public at large than it does to beer geeks and us types. Saying infection to people who won't understand will only make the problem worse than it actually is.

Indeed. I got a box of killer swag worth more than 2 infected Rabid Duck sixers I got, due to the "quality issues" they had with this horribly infected beer, and some cordial and concerned correspondence from Paul Philippon himself. Let's hope GI does the same quick satisfaction as Duck Rabbit did.

Really hope to get a bottle of this year's BCBCS for my group's bad beer tasting next year.

I was trying to be polite, instead of typing, "Before you lazy bastards post a question, look back at the old threads." There have been a few topics brought up multiple times... Again, trying to be nice...

You are very much one of the few. I know several BAs, myself included, who have reached out to them through Social media and emailing the brewery and gotten no response. I finally had to shove mine back up the supply chain - returned them to the store.
