For what is very likely the greatest non BA imperial stout in its region, Founders Imperial Stout!

So, anyone got the skinny on when we should be seeing this thing on shelves? Because I really need this in my life right now guys. :grimacing:

Plead the 5th is available now. That should hold you over til FIS arrives. Who knows about FIS, it's probably already available in New York :sunglasses:

I've never had the pleasure of having FIS. Looking forward to picking up a 4pk when I see it. I have trouble believing it'll surpass FBS (simply awesome), but I'm confident it's a well crafted beer.

I have seen it in at least 4 places around SE Michigan. I picked up a 4-pack with a late November bottling date.

You, too, should see it soon!

I got mine a week before Christmas in CT. It was the 2015 batch, so I was surprise to see it. Great beer!

@Gemini6 How is it? Looks like they may have changed things up a bit - only 75 IBU this year.

Agreed, much better than a lot of "limited release" beers from smaller breweries that sell for higher $$.

From 90 to 75 IBUs. Why did they change it, when it was already perfect?

Hey Founders! Here's an idea for your next Backstage release...Imperial Stout + ? Barrels.

It has been a while since I had a fresh one (obviously), but I did have a 1yr old bottle a few weeks ago (tasted phenomenal, btw), and this year's batch tasted a little more like the aged version (albeit not as rich and complex). Definitely didn't taste dramatically different, but maybe a touch less roasty bitterness and a touch more dark berry than I remember.

Still world class. For me, this is just a notch below Expedition Stout for my favorite RIS (I rated that 4.82 and FIS 4.81). I had an Expedition, bottled 9/2/15, last week and it wowed me all over again; so complex and smooth for being so (relatively) young. Here in MI, we are lucky to have easy access to both of these!

Comparing the greatness of FIS and Expo is incredibly difficult. How you Michiganders (and others, I know) get access to two of the best stouts in all the land is kind of unfair if you ask me :slight_frown:

I still find it so odd that we don't get Founders in Colorado. Their distribution map does this odd horseshoe-thing around us to the South and West. It's a travesty!

EDIT: But hey, at least we have Big Bad Baptist.

I prefer FIS over Expedition. However, Expedition ages better, imo.

this is my house stout, every year i pick up a few 4 packs and drink it through out the year. IMO one of the best stouts out there.

A couple of months ago a lonesome four-pack showed up on a local shelf. Turned out to be last year's stock, conveniently pre-aged for me. Very, very nice.

To me, FIS does wonderful things with age, whereas Expedition needs the age. Fresh I don't find it very enjoyable.
