This is honestly one of my favorite styles. When done well, a truly good Saison is an absolutely fantastic beer.

I love the tart, complex Farmhouse ales brewed by Hill Farmstead. Their Florence Wheat Saison blew my mind the first time I had it.

I'm also a fan of the hoppier versions of the style, such as Wanderlust by Foundation and the Sunshower series from Trillium.

But nothing beats a funky, peppery refreshing classic like Hennepin.

I also rather enjoy everything I've had from Fantome, particularly with some age.

Have you had Prairie Brett - C ? I love Bomb! and all the variants of bomb & have enjoyed most all of Prairie , but this Brett - C was just to funky for me. I think it's the yeast, that is used in the beer .? I have had some very good J.K.-(Texas) beers that I have loved &, a few not cared for. To each his own. Drink what you like & don't let anyone tell you what you "Should be drinking" ! Cheers.....

I absolutely love saisons. Currently I have sampled 221 different saisons. So much diversity in the style, but the common factors are an easy drinking beer that is very refreshing, very flavorful, and complex! My favorite four types of saison variations are (categorized as I perceive my personal saison tastes): rustic old school saisons, the tart american saisons, brett saisons, and fruited saisons.

In general terms... I really enjoy saisons from these breweries (and consider them to be amongst the top tier saison brewers in the world): Hill Farmstead/Grassroots, Side Projects, Saint Adairias Rustic Ales, Casey brewing and blending, Allagash, Jester King, Crooked Stave, Brasserie Dupont, Brasserie de Blaugies, Funkwerks, Anchorage, Upright and Logsden.

You just can not go wrong with a saison. Anytime of the year in extreme heat or extreme cold weather. With almost any meal because they pair so well with most food or a stand alone beverage as well. Ahhh the saison, what a classy beer style!

I've tried a bunch and a number of my favorites have been mentioned above.

But I never pass up Prairie Artisan. They brew so many different variations that I could just stick with them for saisons and never have a regret. That said not every Prairie saison is a favorite but they brew two or three that are at the very top of my list.

I love the style and think that in general it is underrepresented and much too expensive. I would love to try all of them but since hennepin is gone form the local grocery my choice is allagash. I think this style should be as plentiful on the table as the pilsner and be just as cheap. This year an outstanding saison for me was avec les bon vouex.
