Come on out to The Dalles, Oregon. We have a brewery again for the first time since 1916, when Columbia Brewery closed their doors due to prohibition. This is the 100th anniversary of that closing. No longer now will the pale of prohibition doom us, no longer will the only local brew be the homebrewer's. Praise the Lord we have a local brewery again! Thank you Free Bridge Brewing!

And the beer is quite good. Three beers on tap tonight at the opening. The IPA and Stout were excellent examples of their respective styles but it's the APA that I want to tout the most. Juicy apricot, candied sugar finish. The beer gets better when it warms up! Always a good sign. Hints of Toppling Goliath's PseudoSue in terms of mouthfeel and finish. Now I have your attention.

You walk through the production area to get to the cozy taproom, outfitted with a pleasing mishmash of decor (think McMenamin's lite) including a photo of said free bridge, the first bridge to cross the Deschutes River on the Oregon trail.

They also serve food. I had already eaten when I'd gotten there but the Asian pulled pork looked awfully good.

Here's an article written in the local paper awhile back which highlights relevant information on the brewery. Here's their Facebook page.

If you're wondering, I don't work for them, but I live in The Dalles and am excited to get people out to the east end of the Gorge to share the blooming awesomeness of what we have out here.
