    Morning, BA's.....happy cold ass Monday!

Bit sad to learn of one of my all time favorite artists, David Bowie's passing at age 69 Sunday.....major influence on me as I was a teen growing up in the 70's....my late elder brother was really into Bowie, and got me into his music as well....

Amazing man and a major talent lost.....RIP, Thin White Duke

Huge, huge blow to the music world this morning. Nobody did it like Bowie. Greatest chameleon of rock n roll. He will be missed.

I put this one on the thread on Friday for his birthday. Let's play it again.

A song on his new album released Friday was called Lazarus. Even to the end, the man knew how to do it.

Long chilly walk with dogs this morning, an otherwise clear and beautiful day. It's starting to warm up, both outside (and inside me!):

Really shocked to hear about the passing of David Bowie this morning. I know there will be many dedications to him on this thread today and rightfully so. I was a kid in the early 80's so this video was my first introduction to him. What a musical genius. Doubt there will ever be anyone like him again.

More beer - am 'sinking in the quicksand of my thoughts"

    And Bowie tributes....

I was a kid of 13 when Hunky Dory came out in 1971. and 14 when Ziggy Stardust came out in 1972....these albums are burned into my psyche!

So many songs on that album that I love.....especially this one.....

Such an incredible songwriter and performer...

    "Quicksand"

I'm closer to the Golden Dawn
    Immersed in Crowley's uniform
    Of imagery
I'm living in a silent film
    Portraying
    Himmler's sacred realm
    Of dream reality
I'm frightened by the total goal
    Drawing to the ragged hole
And I ain't got the power anymore
No I ain't got the power anymore

    I'm the twisted name
    on Garbo's eyes
    Living proof of
    Churchill's lies
    I'm destiny
I'm torn between the light and dark
    Where others see their targets
    Divine symmetry
Should I kiss the viper's fang
    Or herald loud
    the death of Man
    I'm sinking in the quicksand
    of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore

    [CHORUS]
    Don't believe in yourself
    Don't deceive with belief
    Knowledge comes
    with death's release

    I'm not a prophet
    or a stone age man
    Just a mortal
with the potential of a superman
    I'm living on
    I'm tethered to the logic
    of Homo Sapien
    Can't take my eyes
    from the great salvation
    Of bullshit faith
If I don't explain what you ought to know
You can tell me all about it
    On, the next Bardot
    I'm sinking in the quicksand
    of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore

    David Bowie's best quotes

"I really had a hunger to experience everything that life had to offer, from the opium den to whatever. And I think I have done just about everything that it's possible to do" – interview with The Telegraph

"I always had a repulsive need to be something more than human. I felt very puny as a human. I thought, "F**k that. I want to be a superhuman'"

"Fame, it's not your brain, it's just the flame / That burns your change to keep you insane" – Fame lyrics

"I'm not a prophet or a stone aged man, just a mortal with potential of a superman. I'm living on" – Quicksand lyrics

"We spent endless hours talking about fame, and what it's like not having a life of your own any more. How much you want to be known before you are, and then when you are, how much you want the reverse" – recalling his conversation with The Beatles

"I think fame itself is not a rewarding thing. The most you can say is that it gets you a seat in restaurants" – interview with Q magazine in 1990

"To not be modest about it, you'll find that with only a couple of exceptions, most of the musicians that I've worked with have done their best work by far with me" – interview with Livewire's One On One

"I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring" – to his audience at New York's Madison Square Garden in 1998

"The truth is of course is that there is no journey. We are arriving and departing all at the same time"

Like you, I can not imbibe until later today (had to refrain for 24 hours for a blood test). After that, I am going to the Sports Page Bar and Grille for wings and a few pints of draft Virginia beer (usually Devils Backbone Vienna Lager and Midnight Brewery Rockville Red). Also, there are a number of Lagunitas I have at home that are calling my name.

    Cheers and enjoy your brew.

Fat finger misspelled Ziggy as Zingy but I can tell you are a Bowie fan because you knew what I was talking about. Gotta go through my CDs (do folks still use them), and play some of his albums.

My fondest memories of David Bowie are as Jareth the Goblin King in the movie Labyrinth. I have watched this movie 1 million times and it's still one my favorites. He was the perfect pick to play an eccentric, spandex wearing, big hair whack job. The soundtrack from the movie is awesome too.
