I have a work trip in OC this spring for a Wednesday - Saturday. My evenings are free so I wanted to pick a hotel within walking distance to the best watering hole. I have a car so area isn't an issue for me. Initially, I thought about a place next to the Bruery taproom, but wanted to check with this board for better insight.

The Residence Inn next to the Bruery is a dump in a crappy part of town. If you're inclined on staying near the Bruery do the Marriott at CSUF or maybe the Ayres down by the Stadium (which is also close to Nobles).

OC is spread out and the commute during rush hour can be double or triple what it is when the freeways are open. Where are you working?

I second the Ayres in Anaheim. This area isn't very "walk friendly", but there you'll be pretty centrally located and a reasonably short Uber ride away from multiple breweries and bars.

Skip the bruery and spend your dollars at noble.

Nothing really next to Bruery (that you'd want to stay at). Ayres is within walking distance of Noble as everyone has said already. Personally I'd stay at the Hyatt Regency a couple miles from Noble if you're here for work. It's one of the nicer hotels in that small area so you might as well have somewhere comfortable for your long stay

Walking distance to Noble sounds good.

Is there a "best" bar in the area the OC crowd prefers?

Well, there's Native Son Alehouse in Downtown Santa Ana—usually something good on tap. There's also Provisions Market in Old Town Orange buuuuuut fuck that place and their prices.

The Anthill Pub (UC Irvine's campus pub) usually has great stuff on - some Noble and PtE on right now. Also superb happy hour prices. It's one of the few good places to drink in Irvine. Tustin Brew Co wouldn't be a bad option either

Not sure what some of the comments above are talking about, but I've stayed at either the Quality Inn or the Residence ain't behind the Bruery many times. They are perfectly fine. Especially if you are stumbling back from drinking.

Another vote for Ayres. I've stayed there a couple of times this past year on nights of big Bruery events (anniversary party, BT party) and it is close enough to Noble, Bottle Logic and the Bruery that it ends up working pretty well. There are actually a couple of Ayres branded hotels at the same location (literally on the same lot, shared parking lot etc) so you can choose between the "nicer" one or the lower cost one (called ALO i believe). The lower cost ALO is also often available on Hotwire for under $100 a night.

Edit: Realized that the folks above me were very likely talking about the Ayres off of Katella that is super close to Noble as opposed to the one I'm thinking of which is just a touch further away. Yes, there are a lot of Ayres hotels in the area!

If you are staying in the Noble / Anaheim area and need to commute to Irvine during morning rush hour, be advised, it will be a brutal drive ... southbound 5 on weekday mornings suck bad

I live and work in Irvine. Outside of chilling at home, I'd prefer to not spend a minute of free time in this city.

Yeah, why? People in the OC (like me) call it "OC" all of the time. We're not sensitive like those folks from Frisco.

And northbound in the evening isn't going to be much better. I alluded to that in my first reply. A theoretical 15 to 20 minute drive can easily be over an hour during the four-hour long rush-hour window. Waze is your best hope to find some relief.
