I opened a Saturn recently and was not as impressed with it as I remember.

Any body else dissatisfied with its taste recently ?

Can beer change for the worst short term and then still get better over time?

I do understand that beer changes as it ages and that since think fresh is always the best.

Also, I found since Uranus on the shelf and its actually tasting good right now in my opinion.

I've had the opposite experience. I haven't had one in a month, but the one I had in mid-December was heads and tails better than fresh. If it has peaked and gone downhill since then ... I wouldn't have expected that, but it could be the case.

I might have just had a weird day. Just curious if anyone else agreed.

I have more to try later.

I loved it when it came out and I've got a bunch. I'll report back when I bust one out.

Same here. This may drive me to check on one...just gotta wade through a bunch of other beer to get to it. I think I last had on in August and enjoyed it - not as good as some others I had it next to (Bourbon County, Kuhnhenn), but also a much better price than those others.

I had one just a few days ago and thought it was great. No problems here. Should age very well according to Bell's.

I also had one on Sunday and good as ever! A few friends also commented on how nice it was I shared with.

Saturn (and Neptune for that matter) is holding up wonderfully.

I also had the opposite experience. Had one just last week and thought it was even better than I remembered.

The jury is in. I'm dumb.

Neptune was soooooo good last night. Wish I had more of that.

I've had one of each (minus Mars) in the past month, and the only one that doesn't taste noticeably worse is Venus, and Venus started off as dog shit, so it's not saying much.

Cellaring beer in general I find to be a huge waste. No, in one year, your barleywine is not going to taste better, it's just going to taste marginally more stale.

I have both Uranus and Neptune that I've been sitting on for about 6 months or so. I just popped a Neptune last night, and it tasted as good as I remembered it. I haven't tried the Saturn though....

I have everything but Mars and Venus. I need to get to them as well. Too much good stuff out there from Bells and other breweries. Heck, I'm still trying to get through Oracle and the 30th Anniversary Stout as well.

Neptune is still good but some of the minor flavors have faded. Nice stout though.

Disagree with the general statement here. Take Three Floyds Behemoth for instance (regular, not the BA). It's very hoppy up front for a BW. I, and many folks I know, dislike overly hoppy BW. Sit on that puppy for a year or so, and to our palate, the increased malt forward balance turns the (as you term) 'stale' BW into something much better than the original product.

only one i aged for a year was Mars. Turned into a tasty barley wine with some hop aromas.

3 people with extensive beer cellars whose beers are going to waste like this.
