The last party had a really nice selection of non-sour beers available.

I'm going to Portland at the end of Feb. My time is short, but I know for sure I want to visit De Garde. I'm wondering if there is enough to do in/around Tilamook to make a day of the trip, or if I should just make an afternoon trip to De Garde?

    Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

You could go down to Pacific City for some Pliny at Twist and check out the view at Pelican. Drive up to Astoria for Buoy and Ft. George.

The Oregon coast is an amazing place, so if you're into outdoorsy type stuff, you can definitely make a day of it. If you're just looking to do beer stuff, then you should probably just make an afternoon trip. Besides de Garde and maybe Pelican, there's nothing there. Edit: Ok, "nothing there" unless you do what @distantmantra suggested. But be aware, Pac City is 30 minutes south of Tillamook and Astoria is 1.5 hours north. You can make it work, but it'll probably be a full day.

Agreed with both of these gentlemen above me, I would recommend checking hours and probably going to Ft. George first with maybe a stop at Buoy. Depending on what day of the week it is, chances are that those spots will be open well before dG. Hit the coast for a (cold) bit of time, maybe grab some Doogers clam chowder on the way down, close at dG, hit Fat Dog for a slice, then head back.

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like checking out the coast will be fun, and Pacific City sounds like a good 2nd destination. Not worried about the cold, its going to be -20 here tomorrow, the Oregon coast sounds downright tropical.

Maybe we can form a Clamilitia and take over DeGarde Brewing and the surrounding Bovine Refuge.

I had to google 'clam gun', we have many clams in MN. Can I rent mine from the clam gun range? Is there a waiting period?

You can just buy one at the hardware store. They're next to the crab bows.

Just adding some comments to those above. Sorry if I'm sounding like a broken record, as I think I've said this a couple times before. The only real reason* to go down to Pacific City is the Pelican patio. But if it's storming and wet, then the patio will be closed. So why not just go to Pelican in Tillamook if you're looking to try something not in bottle from them. The food down in Pacific City is really expensive and the beer isn't any better as the production facility is now in Tillamook.

If you're going to make a day of your coast visit, then I would recommend leaving Portland about 9:00 and heading to Astoria. Hit Coffee Girl in north Astoria on the same dock as Rogue (skip Rogue though). Then hit Buoy and Fort George. Depending on how hungry you are, eat lunch at first or second. Taste through some things, and then plan to be on the road by 2:00. If you're quick, you can likely taste a few beers at Astoria Brewing, but I would put that at the bottom of your list.

Then head south. Stop along the way. Make it a 3-4 hour drive. There are breweries in Seaside and Cannon Beach if you're up for more beer. Just make it to de Garde at least an hour before closing. Then dinner at Pelican in Tillamook. Then drive home. This is a great day. Spread out the beer. See the Oregon coast. Enjoy life.

*If PtY just hit town in Portland, then possibly reconsider your trip to Twist in Pacific City. Just saying.
