I have to say for me I have had Pliny the Elder several times over the last year and I can't believe they charge approx 2x the price as Heady Topper and similar. The bottle format is 16.9 oz as opposed to a 16 oz can but Heady is worth way more to me than Pliny. I wouldn't even rank Pliny in my top 50 IPA/DIPA list. I think its a good beer but has no worth to me at the price. Just wondering what other beers you think are so over valued/priced? I'm sure there are Pliny lovers who disagree and its all personal taste I realize. Cheers

For those of us who aren't privileged enough to have purchased Pliny -- What's the cost?

I believe its approx $7 a bottle retail. On the trade forums its often asked 2:1 as 2 heady for 1 Pliny $4$.

I like Pliny a lot, but will never trade for it. I have access to TG hops though so its pretty easy for me to not go after it again.
Would buy it if I was in its distribution area though it's still one of my favorites.

I like it as well but is it worth $7-$8 a bottle?

Not to buy often but to pick a few up if I ever go to their distribution area. I have paid 8 for some of the TG bombers and a lot of them aren't even close to Pliny.

Maine Beer Co. is definitely overpriced. Excellent beer, but way overpriced.

For a 16.9 oz bottle? At $8 per, that's $10.40 for a 22 oz bomber. Or $30.20 for a 4 pack of pints. Or, $35.56 for a 6 pack of 12 oz. Just helping with the math.

And, I might (MIGHT) buy one once, but it would not be a repeat purchase at that price.

Keeping in mind that these are all beers I really liked, I'd say Abraxas, Rare, Xocoveza Charred, and BA Narwhal, Bigfoot & Old Rasputin, to name a few. They were just too much money for what they were. Better, and more affordable, options, including the non-BA versions of some of these, were, to me, superior in both taste and certainly in value.

Just to reiterate - the purpose of this forum is not to focus on Pliny(altho that was my opinion) but discuss beers that u think are over priced….

All ballast point. I've yet to have a beer from them where I felt it was worth the price. Sculpin was an above average ipa but there are many better much cheaper. Victory at sea was good but just not for me.

Pliny is $5.50/bottle at the brewery, and used to be that price at some of the places I shopped. Now I see it for $6'ish (but still $5.50 at Russian River Brewing)
