Interesting concept, I've been to a couple places like this in other states and had a good time. I'll be curious to see what the pricing is for a 16oz pour. I'd guess $5-$7, but will that change if they get something like Todd or Abrasive on tap?

I suppose I should give my thoughts, since I posed the question. My initial reaction is that this seems rather gimmicky. I rarely have issues with the pours I receive or the bartenders at the establishments I frequent. I will definitely have to check this place out, but I highly doubt it will be a go to spot for me. One issue I see...I sure hope the people watching me tap my own beer get paid well, cuz tips probably aren't going to be that great.

I just don't get it to be honest. I'll check it out and hope they do well, but I don't need to pour my own beer. Having taptenders who are well educated in beer and if they are able to relay that knowledge in a good way, then it's kind of neat, but I'd think any good bartender would be able to tell me about the beers on tap at any bar. Now to get a beer I have to go to one place to get a glass, then go to another place to fill my glass and then go back to another place to sit and drink.

I visited a place like this out in San Diego called Barrel Republic . I enjoyed it quite a bit, everything's a bit more pricey per ounce then we would be used to but in the end your not tipping anyone since no one has served you. I see this place looks to have food service so I'm not sure how that would go when it comes to average cost for your trip.

I think with the "pour your own" type of setup you may be limited to what you can put on tap. You can have a lot of real solid beers on, but I'm not sure how things will go if you put on a highly sought after beer. When that place opens if they put something like BA Darkness or KBS on tap some yahoo would go and fill a 5 gallon bucket even at 3.50$ an ounce. Don't get me wrong that yahoo may be me, but I digress. Overall though I like the concept, allows you to try a wide array of beers you may not have tried before. Worth a shot if even for the novelty.

I want to see what happens if they get something rare that attracts a crowd. Standing in a line of 50 people who are all filling their own glass has to be as frustrating as sharing a bowling alley with 19 crappy bowlers. I'm personally one of those people who takes forever filling a glass to maximize fluid received (fill, wait for head to settle, repeat).

I'm more or less with MK here. I try to give new places the benefit of the doubt, but unless I'm just not seeing the vision, this feels like some sort of a "beer cafeteria" ("beer-feteria", if you will). I'm not sure why that would be more appealing than heading to a brewpub or restaurant. And for what it's worth, they have one of the better locations in NE, but of the pictures I've seen, it looks like a larger scale Ikea dinette display. Hopefully the pictures alone aren't really doing it justice.

I think the pricing is $6 a pint regardless of what beer you pour yourself. This suggests that they won't have any "special" (more expensive) kegs.

Oh look, ANOTHER Debbie-Danny downer thread. Damn, give the place a chance before we start the tar & feathering!

Who is tar and feathering them? Sensitive much? People voice their legitimate concerns. Seems we want to check it out, give it a shot but have some issues with the business model. Hey, maybe we'll look foolish when it's a run away hit.

I think the idea is to add a personal touch to the bar experience. During high traffic times I like the idea of bartenders not having to take payments as well as pour but then someone trying not to get a glass full of foam could slow down the process on that end. They have a novel idea and I plan on checking it out, wish them the best.

This place seems cool, but if it weren't located right there, I would be less interested. I think it's great to have something right on the GB grounds.

Seems like a neat idea but taps I can get anywhere else and on happy hour with food.

So many bartenders don't even know how to properly pour a beer, now this place is handing over the tap handles to Joe Twelve-Pack? I can already hear all the glasses clanking against the tap nozzles just before they are submerged into another beer. Remember how long it took to get a beer at a keg party in college, when everyone was pouring their own? How many people would you see leave the keg with a glass that was 50%+ of head? I see long line and lots of wasted beer at this place. I personally don't see the appeal, if I haven't already made that clear, but I really don't see the niche this place fills. Is there a legion of Monday morning armchair bartenders out there that are itching for the chance to show off their ability to sling suds? Why not have a bar that just uses the self-serve machines like they have at Target field? You get rid of any human error in pouring the beer. The customer has the power to pick exactly what they want. And for those less informed imbibers, detailed descriptions of each beer could be shown on the screen.

I wish them the best of luck.

The wife and I have been here a couple times for trivia on Tuesday nights. Mostly because it's so close to where we live. They have a dozen or so tap handles, of which about half I've have no interest in (e.g., ciders, several session IPAs). I could do without pricey and small portion food options as well. I guess I don't see this place appealing too much to the BA community unless someone REALLY likes pouring their own beers.
