I agree. I thought it was okay but not worthy of whale status.

Black Tuesday. While it was a very good beer I was expecting more. I enjoy Wootsout and Prairie Bomb just as much and those are easily available.

I came here to say the exact same thing. Why do people get so obsessed with this beer?

But one that I keep getting suckered into and have been disappointed by repeatedly is Zombie Dust. I just don't get it.

"Tier 1" let down: StS and Velvet.
--StS was good, but not great and not worth the hype. Velvet was a hot mess.

"Tier 2-3" Let Down: Last Snow, MBCP, Dark Lord, Abraxas, and KBS.

Not necessarily whales, but were pretty hyped when I tried them and was not at all impressed. Many were probably ground breaking when they were first brewed but just don't stand up against more modern examples of the style.
Pliny the Younger (or 90% of hyped IPAs)
    BA/reg Abraxas
    KBS
    Dark Lord
    Abyss
    Prop 15
    Cherry Rye

I avoid hyped beer now, very rarely is a beer much better than local sours/IPAs or my fridge full of regular Bourbon County.

Let's remember the level of depth people have gotten into the craft scene. When I first became interested KBS and 120 were really impossible to land. Someone working to land those beers and being disappointed is no less than someone landing a BVDL and being disappointed. I think as long as you shared it with some friends, had a discussion and came up with a conclusion you are doing it right!

The one beer I was disappointed in was SR71. I had some other really good beers that night so maybe that skewed my opinion but it was a let down for me. There are beers from other styles im not a particular fan of the style so not going to mention those as it wouldn't be fair.

Respect beer and others opinions as long as they are articulated in a respectful manner. Just because someone doesn't like a beer you loved doesn't mean they are stupid, just different.

I think most will agree some of the best beer is filled at your local brewery with no lines where you walk away with a growler of gold!

Thank you. I did not know any of those. So 100% of abbreviations used. But now I know and am in the club.

Hopslam. I expected a genie to pop out of the bottle and hook me up with a handy....way too much hype and talk for a slightly above average brew. Bomb also failed to disperse the handy dispensing genie as well.....

I think the only beer I've ever had on the white whale list is Surly Two and it was not good; I dumped at least half of my pour out.

    Westbrook Mexican cake (all heat)
Abraxas and huna on tap ( look forward to trying in bottle though)

Dark Lord, one of the worst beers I've ever had.
Parabajava, really disappointed, Parabola is far better
Heady, just an above average DIPA
    King Julius, Julius is better

To be fair ... you are reading a thread about WHALES on a beer nerd forum. You qualify as obsessed and you're reading the whiny ruminations of people (probably) even more obsessed.

Not exactly entry level subject matter. ;-)
