I'm visiting Dallas for work next week and will not have the freedom to venture out to various brew pubs etc. I want to grab a great local 6 pack and maybe a bomber for my hotel. What would you recommend? I may be limited in liquor store options, so I'd prefer beers that are "readily available" and fresh.

I feel pretty spoiled living in Minneapolis having access to excellent Midwest beers from Surly, Toppling Goliath, Bent Paddle, Lift Bridge, etc. I'm hoping to find similar quality in Texas.

I'd look for Community Beer Company Mosaic IPA for the six pack. I'm not in Dallas, but I'd check to see if you can find Lakewood Bourbon Barrel Temptress for the bomber. Regular Temptress is good also.

I'll be in the North East corner of Dallas. Don't know exactly where yet.

Real Ale Black Quad is fantastic (in bombers).

As a frequent traveler to MSP, I will agree... you are totally spoiled up there.

I agree with Ford on the Community Mosaic. It is a big single IPA that is very good / easy to find fresh. Another IPA option would be Deep Ellum IPA that I like even better. Community also makes a great stout... Bourbon Barrel Legion that comes in four packs. The labelling is only subtly different from the regular Legion so be careful.

If you are staying North East Dallas, that is sort of Lakewood Brewery area which makes the excellent Bourbon Barrel Temptress. I really doubt you can find that in a bomber though. They have a variant called Sin Mint Temptress that should be easy to find. Finally, on the bombers/750's, Jester King is not hard to find from Austin.

Enjoy your stay and bring me some Todd in cans next time you come!

I brought a bomber of Real Ale Three Lions to a share this past weekend and everyone (some seasoned beer geeks included) was astounded at how good it is.

Obviously Yellow Rose and any Jester King bottles are a must-snag.

I second all that you said. Three Lions has become a staple as an extra that I throw in for trades.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! My goal is to get a solid list of 6 packs and bombers, then read some reviews then cross reference with what I find when I arrive! I'd take a 2 week old good IPA over a 4 month old shelf turd great IPA. I'm liking the list so far!

I'm pretty much a fan of all beers but sours and Belgian style beers are on the bottom of my list. Barrel aged beers, IPAs, Double IPAs, Imperial stouts and barleywines are at the top of my list.

Yellow Rose just hit DFW. As mentioned the Real Ale bombers are great. Community Mosaic and BA Legion. Dankosaurus and BBH (Bourbon Barrel Hellfighter Porter) from Karbach is floating around as well. You can find some Clown Shoes Good, Bad, and the Unidragon which is a TX only release stout.

Definitely pick up a bomber of Yellow Rose. For the most part, I can't stand IPAs and I'll drink Yellow Rose all day long. If people outside of Texas knew about it, they would fawn over it just like they do with New England IPAs, Pliny, etc.

Definitely get some Cedar Creek Dankosaurus, sticky danky juicy goodness! From NE side of Dallas, definitely hit up Lakewood Brewing. Ya may call around for Karbach BBH, probably all gone though. For a good local collaboration, seek out the Lakewood/Rahr DFW Rum Oak Barrel Aged Cherry Baltic Porter, Lakewood brewery had it on tap last time I was there, and can be found in bombers. This weekend on Saturday is a big 3rd Anniversary party at Community, very much so worth going to...look it up online for tix.

Enjoy your stay and hope you find some good brews!!!

I didn't like it at all as the brewer's cut, so I haven't even considered buying Three Lions. Wonder if they changed the recipe at all. May have to revisit this one.

Dream crusher is a great local double from Deep Ellum. Check date codes on bottom of can though.

Not much help since you'll be in Dallas, but Live Oak Hefeweizen is now in six-packs around Austin and might be the best answer to your "Best Currently Available 6-pack" question.

You should definitely look for Legion, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Temptress. That beer is awesome too (available in 4-packs).

I've been drinking Texas beers for a while and just had my first Revolver Blood & Honey. My first impression? One of the best Texas-brewed beer I've had. I also recommend Buried Hatchet Imperial Stout. Community Legion seems to be a north Texas consensus favorite.

My pick for local 6 pack would be Community Mosaic. 4 packs, Oak d Mosaic and BA Legion.

Bombers: Yellow Rose, Rahr & Sons Winter Warmer, French Quarter Temptress is till floating around, Numb Comfort of you can find it.

Anyone know of the French Quarter Temptress in Austin? I've seen BBT and Sin Mint, but not the FQ
