    Dear Breweries,

I love the concept of tap takeovers when it is showcasing a brewery with new distribution (not available in the area before) so I can try a bunch of new (to me) products. I love the concept of tap takeovers when it's flagship A, flagship B and flagship C + rare/special beer D + rare/special beer E. But I'm starting to see an epidemic of tap takeovers which have....nothing that I can't get every day in the area.

If anybody suggests a "tap takeover" where you just get normal stuff that the bar could have sold any day in the past month, please slap them in the face.

    Cheers,
    An Annoyed Beer Drinker

Hahaha. Don't you think you're being just a weeee bit nit picky here?? I don't share your frustration with this issue.

BUT, to each their own as the saying goes...

ALSO as the saying goes, first world problems bro

The Bros had an editorial in the ba magazine a few years ago about this very subject. Not sure how to find it but maybe someone else knows?

Btw I pretty much agree with you in this. The better beer bars always seem to do this the right way but the mediocre or new to the craft scene spots are often guilty of exactly what you're saying.

From a bar perspective I'm not a fan either. It's fun during the event, but then you're left with a completely unbalanced tap list, or you end up having to pull a bunch of things and you're stuck with partial kegs clogging up your walk-in cooler for weeks afterwards.

Just because you are sick of it does not mean that another beer drinker is not excited to try some new beers. Even if they are everyday to you.

Poor OP. Waaaaaaaaaaaah. But wait! Here's a newflash!! There's a solution to the problem. Don't go to tap takeovers that feature beers you can get all the time.

As a pet peeve, yeah, I can see that, especially if held at a craft specific bar. The other bastard child would be the seasonal takeover. At one of my favorite spots, I'm still praying for the last 2 of 6 pumpkin based taps to finally kick. Enough already!

If there is a tap takeover you do not like, do not go. I loved the Bud Light tap takeover at my local bar. :stuck_out_tongue:

Most of the Tap Takeover here in Minneapolis , feature shelf brews along with limited and one offs most of the time, so i love going to these and seek them out, in our Mid-West forum here , this is updated daily by members , just last week i had BA Darkness CW, Black Gold, 14.15 BCBS, Peruvian Morning, IMO Tap Takeovers are win win for consumer and bar.

Albertson's ( a western grocery chain based in Boise) has used these to expose the local breweries to the masses, many who go there for cases of Bud Light. A few of the local Albertson's now have growler stations, and we are currently at 18 breweries in the Boise area, with three more slated to open in 2016. Boise is not a large city, so these have been an effective way to get the brewery's beers out in front of a general populace, especially when its getting difficult to keep up with the all of the breweries that are out there. So is it marketing? Definitely yes. And I agree, no one's forcing you to buy the beer that is readily available, go for the special release's only. I would only complain if they made me buy Flagship A to get to Special release D. (see previous thread on distributor who made buyers purchase Goose IPA in order to get BCBS.)

Have we ran out of actual beer discussion to make so we just complain about anything? Can't wait for the next one, Pet peeve: Non-proper glasses at bars.

I feel your pain and wholeheartedly agree with a caveat - I don't drink pumpkin beers. But it's kinda ironic to see so many pumpkin beers on sale at local stores, especially since they've been there since at least August. And it seems like each week, the price gets lower and lower.

There are many people in this world who live to complain. And I believe non-proper glassware at bars has been covered and dutifully complained about.

Local place had a tap takeover from a brewery that is ~60 miles away and has been open for years.
It was awesome because they had some cool variants and the beers were really good. They even had a BA version of a beer that we didn't even know that they made.

I think they're great. I don't go often myself, I like a quieter scene these days, but when I do go, love to see a crowd of twenty somethings enjoying great beer. Wish I had that in my twenties. Bars need to generate a buzz (pun intended) to keep people interested. Take overs do that well, even if they are easy access beers. Hopefully will mix in some off beats too though.

And then the fire sale to get rid of said partial kegs... usually on a non-busy night just shy of a week later.

Completely agree with tap takeovers that feature something special or variants but I'm not a fan of tap takeovers with just standard year round brews and the current seasonal (unless there is something interesting like meeting the brewer).
