Forgive me if this has been covered (probably some variation has). I was just wondering how many of you have local (smaller) places that brew an imperial stout as well as (or really close anyway), say, Founders Imperial Stout, or a barrel-aged stout as well as Goose Island? As good as my NJ breweries are, I can only think that maybe Kane Silent Nights for imperial stout and Kane A Night to End All Dawns for barrel-aged even come close. So, do the rest of you Americans out there have one or more local options?

I dunno- it sounds like obtaining those local brews is more physically demanding and remote than just getting the others at the store .

Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout was far more enjoyable than KBS for me.

Imperial Reserve from Parish Brewery is fantastic!

Bourbon barrel Imperial Reserve available only on draft is magnificent

MadTree Barrel-aged Axis Mundi (and the coffee & vanilla variant) is pretty excellent. Thirsty Dog BA Siberian Night is readily available for most of the year in Ohio, too. Rhinegeist won a silver medal at GABF for Sherry Barrel Ink. It was really great, but I still prefer Bourbon Ink.

Austin Beerworks produces a pretty nice Sputnik RIS, and I came across a bourbon barrel version they're calling Midnight Swordfight that is right up there with some of the best

Does anyone make an available Imp Stout besides kane in jersey? I prefer spellbound (nj) porter over founders porter. Nj can roll with the big dogs any day.

I had Dogfather bourbon barrel aged stout on tap that would rival the absolute best imp stout in the land.

Not a stout. But similar enough taste profile. Jacks Abby Framinghammer is excellent. I am referring to the regular. Then the variants are icying on the cake.

By variants I mean BA versions. The non BA Framinghammer is one of my favorite.

It's a good beer but too thin to be in the same class as what I would consider the big boys

Cricket Hill in Fairfield releasing it's Russian Imperial Stout this weekend. I've had it in past years. It's a very nice beer but not on the same level as Founders or Brooklyn. They may also have a bottled BBA Imperial Porter still for sale that is also worth trying.

Currently having a BBA Imperial Milk stout with Coffee and Chocolate from Deep River Brewing. It's is definitely on par with the "big boys" and...it came in a 16oz can!

My local brewery brews a couple of nice stouts. They're called "Hunahpu" and "Marshal Zhukov."
