They set the standard for every style they brew which is something that no other brewery IMO can claim. They pretty much started my obsession with well made beer and I'll always love them. Maybe one day I can have Korbinian six packs.....

If I had to pick one brewery for the rest of my life this would probably be in...maybe Ayinger...I'd have to think hard on that...Haven't had enough Andechs to say them but their doppel is the best beer I've ever had.

Great thread, always nice to see some Weihenstephaner love. There the best in the world, IMO.

    World class brewery.

They are the "reference" for several styles.

The Hefeweisse was one of my wow beers and one of the later ones after I was really into craft beer. I had modest expectations after pouring the light amber beer. What a surprise, although it didn't overwhelm with malt or hops like my other eye-opening beers, everything seemed in perfect balance and delicious. One of my very few 9.5, and probably should have been a 10, but my rating was low on looks. A classic.

    Ayinger vs Weihenstephaner
That's a battle for the ages. Personally I'm real keen toward Celebrator and I love their Ur-weisse, but Weihenstephaner regular Hefe is like a gift to the earth. Would be like choosing between your children, don't know if I could.

it's a classic no doubt, as someone else noted, the problem with classics is that they are old news, as great as they ever were but not new

My wife bought me a sampler 4 pack for Christmas years ago. I have been a craft beer drinker ever since. I remember just sitting and staring at the glass while drinking each one. I was blown away at the smell, taste and mouthfeel. Still one of my favorites and pretty affordable for the quality you get.

Love Weihenstephaner. Don't rate their pilsner though.

    Err, No.

There's plenty of love out there for Weihenstephan - you should follow them on Twitter - they're often linking to reviews and articles about their beers (including one of my reviews).

    Love me some Weihenstephaner!

I can only echo what others have said. They are a world reknown brewer for good reason. You will see me with my bomber of korbinian throughout the year. If only someone would carry the whole line. ( hint)

Kristallweissbier: most beautiful appearance of any beer ever. Perfection in a glass.

Exactly what I was going to say. I've often recommended it as the "fancy" toast beer for people wanting to replace wedding Champagne with beer. That and it's all sorts of tasty.

Those would be my three that would enter the battle for title of my "One brewery...". At least as far as those available locally on my shelves, I won't play the "if I lived in Germany" card.

    -Weihenstephan's wheat beers/Andech's hefeweizen > Ayinger's

    -Ayinger and Andech's doppelbocks > Weihenenstephan's

-Weihenstephan is the only one that distributes their pilsner (fresh from a keg this was an incredible experience, and I could get my hop fix with fresh Weihenstephan pils alone, no need for IPAs)

-Ayinger's Munich Dunkel > Andech's (I think, haven't had in awhile), and Weihenstephan doesn't distribute theirs

    -Ayinger's Jahrhundert and Andech's Vollbier Hell > Weihenstephan's Original

    -Ayinger's and Weihenstephan's Oktoberfest > Andechs...although each is unique

-Ayinger's Maibock on draft is the only one I get from these three

-Vitus is the only Weizenbock from these three that I see on my shelves

Eh, this would be tough to call. Each has their own specialty/distribution that I would hate to give up. And then Schlenkerla is needed to cover my Rauchbier fix...

I guess I'd have to pick Weihenstephan. I can't live without a pilsner, and their doppelbock and especially Helles are still very good, just not as good as Ayinger's/Andechs. I can live without Munich Dunkels and Maibocks (not that I don't love them).

Add to that, Ayinger doesn't bottle date, and Andech's is consistently old and never moves. Weihenstephan's stuff is widely available on draft in my area, they bottle date, and their stuff moves well enough. Also, their beer seems to hold up better in bottles than most.

I love this brewery. $2 and change for a 16.9 oz bottle of deliciousness? You literally cannot beat that. Korbinian and Vitus are definitely my favorites. So, so good.
