Absolutely solid brewery. I would imagine their beer is even better fresh at the brewery. Would love to visit Bavaria 1 day.

Good beer , good brewery...they do not need the hype. I am glad, that some have no clue. That leaves more for me and those who appreciate a solid product.

They do have a pale ale, hoppy wheat, and a fresh hop beer. Had two on draft and they are very good. Perhaps not the American style that is the most popular right now but lets not count them out of the hops game.

The Original is the greatest beer ever brewed ever in the history of the cosmos. Fact.

    Edit: Mother Nature drinks it.

Referencing imports in general, for me freshness is key. Sometimes I will get lucky and find a fresh import that has been properly stored. A majority of them do not fall within this standard and are a shadow of the beer they are overseas. Normally a beer or two for nostalgia-sake but that is all.

Definitely an ace brewery. Their hefeweizen is my favorite beer, and my bottle shop always has it waiting for me.

Great beer. A few times a year I will go on a binge, drinking top notch beers from Europe. I always find myself saying - why don't I drink these all the time? And then an interesting IPA or Stout will land at my beer store and I'm back to buying US craft brews. We are blessed with variety.

I disagree with the price argument. It's still way cheaper than the $15 bombers and $12 single bottles people pay for the latest DIPA. I think the biggest factor is that we've devalued great German beers. Most of this site is all American craft brewers.

I really enjoyed their festive. Was lucky to find some even into late December. Bought as many as I could find. Will do the same next year.

If by "devalued" you mean that beer consumers want to pay less then you should add German beer drinkers into your assessment. The German beer consumers would refuse to buy Weihenstephaner beers if the price was akin to what we pay for these beers in the US.

    Cheers!

Fantastic brewery. Of course, given that they've been in continual operation for about a millennium or so, it'd be expected that they'd have figured out what the heck they're doing. :grinning:

I'm lucky enough in my area to know where I can get relatively fresh Vitus and Hefe on tap more or less whenever I want. Throw in that Korbinian is virtually immune to freshness concerns as a doppelbock, as well as found on a decent number of shelves around here, and I'm fairly content. Of course, that availability may be the effect of living in a "sister city" of Munich, and the profusion of German heritage societies dotting the local landscape.

It's a great brewery. If you're ever traveling in Europe and have a stop in Munich, try and space your flights so that you have a night to go out to the brewery. In addition to being able to do beer flights, their food tastes great. I had the mussel risotto and could not have been more satisfied.

At the brewery they still sell bottles of Infinium (their collaboration with Boston Brewing Company). I don't recommend getting a bottle for consumption on site at 45 euro, but the bottle to take home at 25 euro was somewhat reasonable. Definitely the best champagne of beers I've had as it's brewed with champagne year. My favorite beer though had to be the Vitus.

I use the Original as that "Gateway" beer to what a true flavorful crisp lager can be. I'm hitting a perfect .1000 with people really liking that one. It's a mainstay in my fridge. Price is a bit up there for a sixer. But nothing crazy (for me). People who I've turned into liking it hate me for it because they are used to dropping $8 on a shiner type sixer. Weihenstephaner is around $13. Anymore, it seems the 500ml bottles have gone up a good $0.75 cents to a $1.00. They used to sit around $3.70. Now they are closer to $5. Vitus is great but I don't drink it nearly as often as I do the sixers of hefe and original.

For the past 3 years there is a Weihenstephaner gift set available during the holiday season. A variety 5 pack plus a 0.5L Hefe glass. Best deal around. $20 for all of it.

I've actually never been too picky about the bottling date. Only here when I read this thread today did I see how it was dated. Maybe I'll spring forward on a couple 500ml bottles that are dated better than others,

btw, great thread. It's nice to see this sort of love away from the IPA, stout, and sour craze.

My trouble with Vitus is that I usually only buy one half liter bottle. By the time I think about reviewing it... it's gone. :stuck_out_tongue:
