Definitely more stout than black IPA. The roastiness is the forefront on that one, though the hops do come through.

See, I thought the opposite. The Nugget hops came through so strongly that it was more like a black IPA. Either way, it was an interesting beer.

Yea, felt more like a black IPA to me too. A more subtle black IPA perhaps, but my first thought was still black IPA.

    Agree with this.

I hope OH tweaks Super Nugget to find a little more balance. It was way too overhopped imo.

    Some thoughts:
    • Oat Overdose is good. I think it's a little drier than I expected, but I can get behind that. I also tried the Peach-wood Aged when I picked up my cans and that was phenomenal. I'd crush the hell out of that.
    • I saw both cars being towed, and while I get that people parking in a lot that is restricted are gonna be towed, I don't think it's right to cheer other people's misfortunes. I've been lucky to never have my car towed, but too many of my friends haven't, and it's a major pain in the ass. I wouldn't wish that on people I don't like, let alone people I don't know.
    • My one and only brush with the NYPD and the NYC courts was back in 2007. On the day I went to court, I met quite a lot of people who got public drinking tickets ($50 at the time). It was eye-opening, since I come from a city (Houston) where public drinking is legal. I've since gotten the impression that this is a law that is subjectively applied, but also, that it's easily avoidable. If people are drinking on the sidewalks, they are only risking consequences for themselves, best as I can tell. I'm not sure why anyone not drinking should be upset unless they vomit on your shoes or something. Doesn't bother me because it doesn't affect me.

I tend to agree with the public drinking point, if you are not bothering anyone fine do what you want at your own risk. But by the time the doors opened on Saturday the group in front of me were visibly drunk and incredibly annoying. They then proceeded to leave all their trash, bottles and cups on the sidewalk. I thought it was very disrespectful to the neighborhood. At least clean up your crap.

    Yet...

I don't think many care about the act of drinking itself, it's the potential implications it could have on the brewery and/or releases. It hasn't been too bad yet, but if citations start getting issued and neighbors complain, who knows what could result from it.

Yep. NIMBYs control this city. If they don't like something, they'll complain loudly and the community boards usually listen.

Ha ha, that is pretty funny! People who willingly parked in the lot either because they were too lazy or too entitled and you call that a misfortune??!!! They got everything they deserved. Selfish people like that who don't respect the business of McDonalds, people who litter, people who treat the line like one big block party are going to ruin this for everyone else who plays by the rules. Is also very disrespect to the very people who own and work at the brewery who depend on a successful brewery to make a living. People wait in line for hours for beer made by those people, but don't have the common decency to not act like self-entitled jack-asses as they purchase the beer and give Other Half the respect they deserve.

Couldn't have said this any better myself. Those are the people we're supposed to feel bad for?

I feel really bad for those people who got their cars towed. They may not have made it down to Carton and Kane to grab their Regular Coffee and Barrel Aged Silent Nights before they sold out that day . Screw that, those people more than likely knew exactly what they were doing and were willing to take the risk.

I don't think anyone is saying we should feel bad for people who got their cars towed, it seems like people are just suggesting we not openly revel in the fact that it happened. I'm not sure if I agree with that take or not - schadenfreude is a powerful (and sometimes fun!) thing - but in the end the fact that the situation has escalated to towing is probably not a good sign.

If you're going to spend $90 on beer at OH and park at McDonalds - then you need to spend $90 at McDonalds too.

Im sure people do. I suspect these release bring a lot of business to McDonald's. Doesn't mean people should park there but im sure there is some benefit to McDonald's during the releases.

@berto714 understood what I meant. I apologize for not being clearer. While they deserved everything that they got, that doesn't mean it's righteous to laugh at their punishment.

If McDonald's was smart they would charge for parking on release mornings.
If you read any of the OH threads there is plenty of warnings not to park there. While it may be a pain in the ass getting off the BQE, there are plenty of meters on Court St if you go north on Smith a few blocks and hang a left. If you don't want to pay for a meter, head over across Hamilton and park in Red Hook. It's mostly commercial businesses around the northern blocks closest to the BQE and no meters.

Regarding drinking in line: Pack in, pack out. If you are smart enough to remember to bring a bottle opener with you to the release, bring a garbage bag as well.

I never laughed, just said that they got what they deserve, which you seem to agree on. When I read your post from the last page...it sounded like one of those "oh, it's never happened to me, so why should I care," kinda posts.

This is my last post on this subject. But, the failure to see the trees through the Forest regarding what's going on here could certainly come back to bite everyone in the ass. It kinda blows my mind that BAs are the first to shrug off this type of behavior.

It's almost like we need to add the 'Unwritten Rules of Can Release Etiquette' to the monthly OH Brewing threads. Something like this:

    1) Be courteous to neighbors, use your inside voice. There's no need to yell, it pisses off the neighbors.
    2) Park at McDonalds at your own peril. The 4/5 block walk to your parking spot is shorter than the walk to the impound lot. Cheaper too.
    3) If you drink in line, be discrete. Drinking from proper glassware might be cool at home or in a bar/restaurant, but not in line. Yes Heady cans look awesome, but not in plain sight on the sidewalk with cops driving by. Growlers in hand are slightly obvious. No officer, this is a growler of cold brew, really it is.
    4) If you can walk to McDonalds to use the pisser, you can walk to a friggin' trash can to throw away your garbage.
    5) LD is watching, the Chat n Cut is just not cool. If you get there late, so sorry, end of the line for you. But I was stuck in traffic and my buddies were waiting. Man that sucks, get the F to the end of the line.
    6) Be nice to the female bartender:slight_smile: She's nice to me, maybe she knows you violated one of the rules above, so you might deserve the attitude. Not a hard and fast rule, but just sayin'...
