So this might be something of a myopic complaint, but does anyone else work on the retail side of beer and get shipments from Lawson's? The cardboard they use for their flats is awful. It is flimsy, folds in two and by comparison to pretty much ever other local operation (14th Star, The Alchemist, Burlington Beer, Zero Gravity etc) it's utter junk. And it's not like Two Roads - which does most of Lawson's brewing - has the same issue with the flats they send us. Obviously I love Sip of Sunshine, but how much of a savings do 'ya get with the weak sauce cardboard? So am I along in this - admittedly - petty irritation?

I'm guessing that if you are fortunate enough to pick up Lawsons by the case then you won't get much sympathy here.

I think you missed the point of him mentioning he's on the retail end. It's a transportation and storage issue. Cheap cardboard sucks.

My Sips go directly into my marine cooler, then to my fridge and then down my throat.
Cardboard is burned up in the wood stove.

You're right I did! Still, no sympathy - he has access to cases of Lawsons!!

By doing his job? Not sure what the fixation is here. No matter the amount of Lawson's you get, do you want them in the condition they should be in, or dented to hell because the flat fell apart and the beer fell?

Chill, I was not serious, merely jealous that he has access to Lawsons.

God people in this thread aren't getting it. Admittedly it's an odd thread because 90 percent of BA are (a) consumers and not industry folks, and (B) don't live in Vermont. The amount of people who get shipments from Lawsons could literally number in the....tens!

This has nothing to do with packaging but I picked up a few 4 packs in Warren today while getting triple sunshine, after I got out of the store I looked at the canning date and its dated as 12/29 like almost a month old, I don't need it to be canned in front of me but something under 2 weeks would be nice

haha, I think there are more than ten's but yeah, I realize it is a small number. It just seems odd to me that the other flats from Two Roads and pretty much any other hard to find Vermont 4/6 pack are *much* sturdier and it really can be a pain when they break, if only because there is a special place in hell those who waste good beer. That being said, mrhartountain, next time you're in Vermont lemme know, maybe I can earn some sympathy

I have to agree, the cardboard cases are terrible. Bissell Brothers used to use the same cases but have long since upgraded to the nice ones like Alchemist uses.

I also agree that month old Sip in Vermont is less than ideal, not like it sits on the shelves.

Perhaps the cans should be rigged to self destruct after 22 days?

I don't mind the 22 days, but it is different. I purchased some on the last 3 Thursdays, and all of them have 12/29 canning date. I think they still are great and don't notice any difference. Just seems like every delivery was a different batch (canning date) in the past.

Haha, not at all. I have no issue drinking two month old sip, got some in my fridge right now. Just that many visitors are turned off by it.

If SIS was dropped at stores when it got to VT it would sit on shelves and there would be no demand for it, making it lose its magical powers. So, it is trickled out and people clamor for it.

I'm pretty sure I said the same thing as you. I was responding to someone who said they didn't like the date that was on the freshly delivered cans. I just added that the date has been the same for the last 3 deliveries, meaning that is the freshest available.
