I'll be heading up to Surrey tomorrow and was wondering if anyone knows any good beer shops in the area. Looks like beer advocate has Central City Liquor as the only one on this site, so I'll probably just head there.

Hoping to grab some local BC beers. Might grab some Belgian lambic beers if there are any, but mostly interested in getting a taste of the local BC beers.

If you're going to Surrey, just go to Four Winds.

I'm a huge fan of Central City, I suggest not missing a chance to check out the Mothership.

First off, you won't get any Cantillon.

    Second, no Cantillon.

    Third, go to Four Winds.

    No Cantillon.

To echo everyone, Four Winds should be your goto. Central citys a nice stop too. Not too familiar with what is out that area, more options in Vancouver if you're going that far.

Come enjoy our low dollar! your money will go far here

I'm not sure about that. I'll put the stuff from Brassneck among the top stuff in Cascadia. My love for Red Racer from Central City continues unabated. And there's several smaller breweries, whose names I'm spacing on, who are doing some very nice stuff. BC doesn't yet have the quantity of good breweries we do, but they're coming along nicely. Despite the handicap of having to use up all those extra "U"s they have.

haha in a general large scale, sure, id agree with that... While we have some standouts (four winds, driftwood, central city) that would have no problem competing with WA/OR, our brewery scene as a whole is just waking up.

We had 22 new breweries open in the province in 2014 (a record), followed by 39 opening or planning to open in 2015. My thought is that in a few years as these places start to dial things in we're going to see some exciting stuff up here.

Thanks for the input, didn't even realize there was a Canada forum, new here, still figuring lagout. Postponing the trip since my gf is sick, looking forward to heading up in the near future though.

Haha, wasn't expecting Cantillon or any other "rare" beers, just hoping to get some more readily available ones while the fx rate is good.

Def am wanting to check out Four Winds at some point.

Think I may do the Discovery Park > Holy Mountain combo this afternoon for a couple hours.

    Enjoy your weekend!

If you're gonna be at Discovery Park, you should stop in at Urban Family.

One20 Public House is probably the best place to go in Surrey for beer. Really good food, especially for Surrey. Their bottle shop isn't amazing but they keep cork & cage 4Winds longer than anyone else. Fridge is back left of the store when you walk in.

Centry City Liquor Store (beside the Surrey brewpub) has turned into complete crap. For example, they have 3 month old Red Racer IPA, you know... THE BEER THEY MAKE THEMSELVES!!!

The actual Central City Brewpub Surrey is still ok I guess. They don't seem to have any of the one offs that the new downtown Beatty location has. Food is pretty good. Funny enough I've yet to go to the actual new massive brewery, but I think they have the more unique stuff there. Not exactly in the most accessible location.

Sunshine Hills Liquor Store is good. Again, stuff you won't find anywhere else in Greater Vancouver.

B's Craft Beer Lounge in Langley is great. They do tasting flights and I think any bottle on site you can open. Best bottle selection outside of Vancouver.

    Four Winds Brewery - obviously

Nordel Crossing BC Signature Liquor Store - good selection of local bombers. check dates if possible.

Jonny's advice is sound. B's even has a keg of 'belgian lambic beer' on tap right now.

I'll throw in a suggestion or two, places to check on your route.

ULounge Liquor Store - South Surrey, closer to the border. Surprisingly good selection, just watch your bottle dates as they sometimes have aged product. Last I checked they had 2014 Deschutes Dissident still. 10% discount if you buy 6 craft singles.

Big Ridge Liquor Store - Same as above, very good BC selection here especially fraser valley stuff, just check dates if possible. Avoid the imports, they are all very old and never refrigerated and likely very stale. Mediocre brewpub nearby with the same name, ok food and ok beer. On Saturdays they give 12% off if you buy 12 craft singles.

Haha, can we compete with WA on year round IPA's? Not quite but we have a few that are close. Can we compete with WA on Imperial Stouts...nope. However, when it comes to other styles, BC jumped way ahead almost across the board of other styles that quite frankly are often pretty bad in WA and Oregon. I put them in the same level now, but two years ago my answer was different.

FWIW, @JonnyBeers opinion is one I trust. If you're headed that way, shoot him a message, and get his current thoughts.

Plus, Brassneck has yet to disappoint. Maybe they are the deGarde of BC?

I checked out the BCL at Guildford Mall (right beside Sears). Wooooooow do they have a shitty beer selection. Managed to find some decent Gin at least
