I have been drinking beer and craft beer for awhile now but I have always been uninterested in Facebook, Twitter and all that kinda stuff. But I recently gave in and started an Instagram and also stumbled upon this site (facebook and twitter still don't appeal to me). I feel like I just crawled out from under a rock with all the accounts people dedicate to beer, either an individual or a group. I have always learned about breweries and beers the old fashion way of getting out and talking to people and I always will. But Instagram is a way to meet beer lovers and share opinions on beers from all over. And yes I aware I sound like a 90 year old man discovering the internet for the first time but oh well. I was curious what everyone's thoughts were on which beer accounts on Instagram I should follow. There seem to be a lot of accounts/groups/communities and I can't tell which ones are good ones.

I follow a couple of Instagram pages, to me it's just another forum to get information about beer from different regions and or people. However there are few pages that I don't follow for the following reason:

    1. The Beer Hoarder - Person who takes a picture of a number of sought after/brewery only releases, lines them up by a pool or kitchen table, and shows off his haul with the same pride and joy parents of newborn baby do. AKA the d**kswinger.

    2. The Beer Babes - Girls who flash a Sam Adams Boston lager next to their cleavage with little to no description but yet get 1,000 likes.

    Besides that it's all good.

I don't follow beer instagrams or participate in WBAYD (anymore). When I drink I just want to sit and enjoy the beer, not worry about uploading a picture of rare beer #1001 just because I think it will impress people.

If it's searchable by your name or contact info, it's a good way for potential employers to second guess hiring you.
Of course none of us want to work for an uppity, no-fun boss or company, but it is what it is.

This topic can go any which way, like a hundred miles any which way! I use Instagram, I take pictures of my beer, but not exclusively, there's other stuff there. I also follow people who post beer pictures, but once again, not exclusively. The "beer hoarders" and "beer babes" shit gets old and sometimes frustrating because in certain instances they're boasting about being behind closed doors of the breweries drinking next to foeders and such or chugging whales and it strikes feelings of disgust, jealously, etc. But that's just an opinion of mine and those aren't the reasons I choose to post/follow. For me, it's just another source to use to find out what beers are new and out there. Also good photography is intriguing, as well as knowing the potential to converse with fellow beer lovers alike, maybe set up a trade, who knows. Instagram is just one of those programs/platforms that could do a lot for you, or then again, maybe not. Cheers!

You don't sound 90... I barely know what instagram is... I think it is some sort of thing where hipsters post photos and no-one gives a crap, but beyond that I can't really tell :stuck_out_tongue:

I personally like cleavage. And if I can look at some under the auspices of it being a beer picture that makes it all the more socially acceptable and I'm all for it.

I'm not a 12 year old girl, so I don't use instagram. And yes, I realize how offensive that statement is. Like I've said before, I'm kind of a dick

Other than the BA site I don't participate in anything else beer related. I check facebook of nearby breweries to see what new things are happening, but that's it. Anyone who wants to go deep for other social media, well, I suppose that's all part of the aura around this beer culture. Just set your time priorities so that you aren't ignoring your 'real' life.

Thanks guys. @TheBeerNation is one i really enjoy. Seems like they try to post different beers encouraging discussion and aren't into cheap tricks (ie cleavage) or just promoting themselves.

Lol. I don't think that makes you a dick per say...more like someone on his unnecessary high-horse who thinks he's too good for something that other people may enjoy. To each their own. I personally use Instagram all the time to talk about whatever beer I may be trying next

I found the bold part of your post especially relevant. I never would have found my very first trade partner if it weren't for Instagram, which through a series of events led me to here.
