Short's Brewing Co. announces release of Batch 5000

Elk Rapids, Mich. – Short’s Brewing Company of Bellaire, MI announces distribution of the 5,000th batch of beer brewed and packaged at their Elk Rapids, MI production facility. Appropriately named “Batch 5000,” Short’s 5,000th batch of beer is a Triple India Pale Ale packaged in 22oz bottles. This special beer will be distributed in very limited quantities statewide by Short’s longtime distributor, Imperial Beverage.

Short’s, now entering its 12th year of brewing, opened their Elk Rapids production facility in 2009. In order to meet statewide demand for Short’s brews, brewing and packaging have steadily increased alongside improvements to the facility.

Batch 5000 is the first beer to be packaged in 22oz bottles on Short’s production line. According to Short’s, “Batch 5000 is a big bodied Triple American India Pale Ale with a sizable palate coating sweetness. Delicious flavors and aromas of pineapple and orange are complemented by an awesome piney hop bitterness that leads into a warming finish.”

When asked about Batch 5000’s origins, Head Brewer Tony Hansen replied, “When I started thinking about reaching the milestone of Batch 5K, it brought back a lot of memories of the good old days. A lot of which were celebrated yearly with a variety of huge IPAs brewed in celebration of our first five anniversary parties. So I really felt compelled to take parts and pieces from our best IPAs and create a monster triple IPA.” Hanson’s sentiments are echoed in the tagline of the beer, “Immaculately conceived from years of relentless determination.”

Batch 5000 will be making its way to store shelves beginning Friday, January 29th. This beer will be extremely limited and only available at select accounts and at the Short’s Brewing Company pub in Bellaire, MI.

    Tony is a bad MF!

(Hope Bell's doesn't get mad about using the name.)

they will. but they won't claim trademark infringement this time. they'll do it all passive aggresively and name a beer someting like Humulus-Lupulus-Licious, or Hard Parade

It's all good, I think. They used the word Magician in one of their planet beers, I believe. We're equal.

Why would Bells be mad about batch 5,000? Its akin to calling a beer a porter, ipa, etc. Its just a batch number.

Anyways @HopHeadHerman the news release seems to allude its super limited. Is this going to take some effort to secure a bottle?

There will be a breathalyzer test for traces of Short's house yeast.

If it was only that simple....

    Good one

Anyone who is expecting an IPA style beer here is going to disappointed.

Either that or Shorts will have pulled off a brewing miracle. I've yet to find a beer at this ABV that truly fits into the the IPA style. IMO, most beer have trouble creating that IPA experience after 11%. Some brewers can't do it well after 9%.

How could you possibly know that? Did you get a bottle already or are you one of those guys that thinks beefy/high abv IPAs are basically barleywines? Bell's and Dark Horse do it well and I have the utmost confidence that Short's can too. That being said, I'd say there's about a 5% chance that I'll be able to score a bottle
