I think this is a great point; my suspicion is this is the real reason why there have been several new beer names.

Doesn't really matter to me. We can't get Tree House beers here anyway!

Agreed, but I think pipeworks has the greatest potential to stack up to some of the Big Dogs of New England.

They have access to ingredients everyone else has, I think what sets them apart is their incredible obsession with freshness. You go there, they take beers right off the canning line and give them to you. They refuse to distribute because it would put freshness in jeopardy. Anyone can do what they are doing, but so far the only thing I've had that I think is at the same level or better is Trillium.

However, East coast IPAS are great dont get me wrong, but you gotta get a good mixture with some piney, bitter, and assertive IPAs.

I know Hoof Hearted was already mentioned, but we did a Tree House tasting today (did about 5 beers) and finished with a Konkey Dong and Hoof is definitely doing a VERY similar style. Tree House is more orange tasting in each beer and Hoof is more pineapple tasting in each beer.

It's already happening with Enjoy By unfiltered... I imagine there's more to come.

I've not enjoyed Green Street but i was wholeheartedly underwhelmed by Julius. From the way everyone described it, i expected a life changing experience and all i got was an ok IPA.
FAAAAKKKK! Where are they distributing? LOL!

I think it's unfair to ask that question. Tree House isn't widely distributed so you're comparing apples to oranges here. Scaling any business is hard. That's why you pay mom and pop stores a little more because they usually have better quality products. The big guys focus on distribution, sales, volume, etc. The smaller guys focus on quality and have more control over the final product. I'm not saying Tree House is incapable of scaling their fresh to death IPAs and their (haven't had any) supposedly glorious stouts. I'm just saying when scaling a business to distribute nationwide, or even regionally, quality of the product usually suffers while the business attempts to get a handle on more advanced machinery, techniques, and other factors that I don't know about.

Also, as other people mentioned, the three tiered system for beer distribution certainly doesn't help fresh IPA consumption. This goes back to the control factor.

There's nothing to be suspicious about. The beers were named Scaled and Scaled up with fermenters on the label

just a matter of time till another brewery pops up with even more homer hype.

the east coast is guilty as shit with this. everyone knows west coast dipas are good, but people are touting this ne stuff like it's the second coming of christ himself, and to be honest it's really, really not.

remember when the top 10 beers consisted of the world and not just iowa and mass?

If by world you mean a quad only sold on site in belgium that isn't much better than the best quads on shelves here. The top ten list has always been a bunch of over hyped beers mostly brewed here

After having five new treehouse beers tonight, among a few others prior to tonight, I think Hoof Hearted is doing it as good or better! TH stuff is fantastic though, we are just spoiled in Ohio at this point between Fat Heads, Hoof, Brew Kettle and Columbus Brewing for some of the best and diverse types of IPA in the country.

Items typically cost more at mom and pop stores not because they have better quality products, but because they receive higher wholesale prices than chain stores do due to lower economies of scale, meaning they have to charge more to make similar profits. They may also have to charge more to make up for administrative inefficiencies that may not exist at chain store competitors, and even more importantly, they often receive less traffic and generate fewer sales and increasing prices is pretty much the only way to compensate for that. Mom and Pop stores can have better quality products, but that would be a niche thing, it's inaccurate to say all or even most Mom and Pop store's carry higher quality products.

I don't know man, I just sent a crap load of Trillium & Night Shift to a guy in Chicago. Got some Surly (not Chi I know), Pipeworks, FFF, & HalfAcre. So far I'm very happy with what I got in return. Galaxy Fort Point from Trillium is probably my favorite beer right now but Zombie Dust isn't far off. I think Chicago is doing ok with what is brewed there plus distro.

Pretty much only a few stores around Boston at the moment. But the new brewery just opened 2 months ago, it'll start to go further. I could see a Boston plus surrounding areas (maybe NH?) distro coming. That new brewery is pretty large.

No, It would be great to get awesome beers like this regularly. But i bring my thinkign to this. any brewery that scales up from being local to national. For the most part the product doesnt usually taste as good as it was locally. Can you name any nationaly distributed beer that can match with the greats, there isnt.

So yes, for great quality IPAs and other styles; I will take the limtied release and line waiting.

If GoneAway were coming out in limited quantities from a NE brewery, it'd be all over the trade forums. Criminally underrated and the best distributed IPA coming out of Chicago.

Thats a great list of some of the best beers in our area, Enjoy! That being said, I agree with what Kraj30 said, great beer here but nothing like Trillium/TreeHouse. We need a brewery like that here!
