January updates from Smuttynose. East Coast Common, our newest Big Beer, will be released Saturday at Hayseed Restaurant and the tasting room on Saturday. ECC is a re-brew of a Smuttlabs collaboration with Stoneface and Great Rhythm made for 2015's Portsmouth Beer Week. It's a 7.4%, San Franciscan-style warm-fermented lager heavily hopped with Huell Melon, Sorachi Ace and Citra. The ester profile from fermentation really boosts the late hop character. Smuttlabs is releasing Smoked Cherry Short Weisse (berliner-style wheat beer fermented with sweet cherry juice) on the 23rd and then a brewery-only release of Brett & I (13 month barrel-aged brett saison) on the 30th. Every Monday at Hayseed Restaurant is a beer dinner. Our chefs pair a fixed-price, three course menu with half pints of different Smuttynose and Smuttlabs beers for $20. We also offer Hoppy Hour from 4pm-6pm everyday except Tuesday, when we're closed. $3 Smutty beers and specially prepared $5 apps. Despite the snow, we still see people playing disc golf. If that's your thing, come on over. Cheers, JT
I want some of that barrel aged Stallion! I believe Charlie was bottling the other day, looking forward.
I guess this would be the thread to ask this in, but is Smuttynose making Durty this year? I know its usually out by now, and I'm assuming at this point...probably not(?). Durty is one of my favorites cold weather beers and the price point is always excellent. Edit: ok, found their release schedule for '16 on the website and it looks like it is being released January and February. I feel like this was out in December last year though. I don't know, just happy it looks as though it will be out soon.
Durty is out now, but the calendar is for 2016. We released Durty in December of 2015. Smuttynose.com does have a beer finder that you can always put to work in your hunt for Durty or other beers we brew. Cheers, JT
Jay, thought I'd chime in with unrelated thanks for making Really Old Brown Dog. It's a stellar beer that doesn't get the props it deserves.
I've seen two dates for the Stallion release the web site and a twitter update say the Feb. 6th and your facebook post said Feb. 13th any updates to which it is?
Agreed! One of the few beers that really miffs me when it comes to how it is rated here. Not only that, it comes at an incredible price point.
Thanks for asking @Homebrew. Connecticut will be getting kegs, but not bottles. Don't feel left out though, after Smoked Cherry Short Weisse, we won't be bottling Smuttlabs beers for distribution outside of brewery sales. We're reorganizing the entire Smuttlabs project to get more kegs out to bars and restaurants. They're a much better fit in heavy rotation line-ups and the shift will take some pressure off our wholesalers and sales staff who spend too much time managing limited-release bottles. We do have a Beer Finder on smuttynose.com that will be a helpful resource in finding our beers near you. Just remember that it's not an up-to-the-minute of what's available at retail. Just remember to call before you drive, an old but still valid chestnut from my early days on BeerAdvocate. Cheers, JT
Thanks for the info. I just wanted to confirm that the Monday Beer dinner is a static, ongoing thing rather than a limited time offering. I can't seem to find any mention of it on the website. Looking forward to getting back up there! Had a great time at the brewery the couple of times I've been up prior to the restaurant opening.
