Grrr... I hate Europe. The beer is so affordable there!

FWIW -- .5l bottles of Weihenstephan are about $3 U.S. here -- that's not awful, and doing some research it looks like my envy can be quelled a little -- $3 is equal to 2.77 Euro -- not bad at all!

I think there's less hype around them because just about all of their beers are always readily available. At the shop i work in, people tend to ask more for the newest, adventurous, unique beers. So while Weihenstephaner is great, and a master of the styles they produce, the supply/demand ratio is a bit off in order to get people excited for their release.

Which Weihenstephan beers are available in sixers now? I've seen mention of Vitus in this thread, and I know that I've seen Original and Hefe Weißbier just a few days ago.

I've had both many times, but I just prefer the standard hefe. So good.

It's the opposite for me though for Ayinger and Schneider. And I prefer both of their Weizenbocks to Vitus as well. Don't get me wrong, I like Vitus alot, but their hefe is pure wheat beer bliss!

Those 3 and the Pils are available in 6 packs here.

I would largely agree with you. Schneider Aventinus is definitely better than their hefeweizen, though the weizen is by no means bad. I haven't had an Ayinger Weizenbock in a while, but I do have it rated slightly higher than the Weißbier.

Vitus is a great beer, but the hefeweizen is one of the best beers, ever, hands down. Perfection in a glass.

I have not seen those two yet.

To me, their Hefe is the best in the world. Surprisingly, our local Gordon Biersch brews one almost as good.

Have you checked Woodman's? Our Woodman's in La Crosse has both. Or I can get you some if you need.....

Woodman's in Kenosha has it too. I'd imagine that it's at most large Woodman's locations.

I would buy more Weihenstephan except for the fact that the bottles at my local shop are covered with a fine layer of dust and seem to have been there for months. I could't find any date on the bottles, so I'm not willing to take that chance.

The Hefe is in my top 5. Period. Vitus never disappoints.

This thread made me thirsty. Maybe after work I'll walk to the brewery and had me some fresh, unfiltered pilsner (my very favorite) or Vitus. or buy a case from the brewery with my University employee discount.
Sorry, i had too, never get to brag about the fact that I work for the University that owns Weihenstephan (TUM) and work only a few blocks from it, I mean, every one here does.

Considering the fact that every brewery in the European Union (regardless of size) has to have the ability to stamp a clearly decipherable best before date on all packaging, the absence of this information on their export packaging, or the use of ambigious or hard to decipher labeling for their exported products cannot be interpreted as anything but deliberately deceptive, and it's a practise for which there is no excuse in my opinion.

    Amen!

I am tempted to just boycott breweries that do not date their bottles with very easy to read information but I am a weak individual. To my credit I do refuse to purchase non-seasonal Ayinger bottled beer since they do not provide any dates at all.

    Cheers!

Ah, but one of the glories of the Korbinian is that it need not be fresh to be beautiful.

Korbinian and Augistiner-Bräu's Maximator were key in the opening of my palate.

I'm enjoying one right now. It's quite good. I need to do a Korbinian vs. Andechser Doppelbock side by side one of these days. No matter which comes out on top, I win. :grinning:

"Deceptive" and "No excuse"? I'd agree but  I imagine that it is often done at the request of the US importer and/or distributors who might put the brewer in the position of "do it our way" or we won't import/distribute your beer.
