Well then. Check you out. And everyone you know too. Juuuuust Kiiiiiiiidinnnnnggg.

In all seriousness, it doesn't in the least damper my love and indulgement for craft either. I was just venting on one aspect of this hobby that I frown upon.

    Cheers sir.

Those days that end in "d-a-y" are the best days to drink your good stuff!

You are upset about guys that brew beer and like to drink it? Shocker: A lot of the innovation in our community was started in the homebrew community. Reference: Pretty much any craft brewer ever.

....Back on topic, BA Stouts are pretty much the only beers I really enjoy, so that's all I really buy. I know everyone has a slightly different opinions on what "whales" are or are not but I can afford to drink BA beers every night so that's what I do because I enjoy it. [IMG]

People can drink what they want, and we don't get a ton of rare beer releases around here, so if I can get one via trading, I'll usually save it for a special occasion. I also don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out the ostentatiousness of telling people that you only drink whales.

Does it matter how/why someone can afford an expensive hobby? At all?

@cavedave I think the attitude of this thread is what @PJ_ is talking about when he mentions "hate and envy". Of course there are plenty of generous people on these boards but I'm betting many of those people that you referenced are not on this thread, snidely posting "its all those undeserving rich kids living off of their parents' dime!". Many of the posts in this thread reek of resentment and negativity towards what they perceive as contemptible behavior. The fact is that this is a place where people of all walks of life mix, centering around a common passion in beer. Many hobbies/clubs out there do not draw in the same economic diversity that beer might.

Sitting on a cellar full of #whalez is like keeping a Ferrari in the garage. The car was built to be driven. Drink the beer.

My bad. I said the term "whalez" is up to interpretation. Never claimed any of those were "whalez bro". Just saying I do enjoy barrel aged beers.... I'll go back to drinking my "tilapia"

I'm not a super whale bro, but I do enjoy trying them to see how my opinion of them compares to the masses.

If I do find them, I store them away for a bottle share or just to share with friends at parties and the such.

I definitely spend more than I should on beer, but life is too short and I enjoy it, so I might as well live it up.

If you drink a whale don't you destroy it's trade value?

This thread has been super entertaining, but I did take one thing from it: I'm going to stick with "$ for $" philosophy in trading, because it makes sense to me. I realize this is slightly off-topic, but this thread really reinforced my feeling on the "whales" subject as it relates to trading and the acquisition of said brews. Beers aren't marketable securities; they don't gain or lose value. Not in my mind anyway.
