    What up NBSers!

I woke up to some awesome news this morning...my fiancée accepted a new job and will be moving back to join me in WI! We had been living out in Bmore for the last three years getting work experience until jobs opened up back in our home state. It's been about a month since I moved back and we thought best case scenario that she'd be back in a year. Never in a million years did we think she'd be moving back in a months time! Especially considering that this was the first job posting for her field within a reasonable commute from GB we have scene in the last 4 years! We are very very fortunate!

    Anyways...onto some Brewskis!

Starts off with Big Dank Nose...also picking up a nice floral hop, caramel malts, and boozy phenols

Taste features big red juicy grapefruit flavors, some sweet orange marmalade, and ends with a touch of earthy pepper that is quickly cut by grapefruit and piney bitterness.

Mouthfeel is a touch syrupy. Nice creamy character from the oats and some warming alcohol on the back end.

    Definitely a sipper!

    Cheers NBSer's!

    Howdy Sunday friends,
This week was a lot better than last week. No snow!!! And temps today in the 50's ?? Next week we may see 60. If this is global warming I'm all for it (sorry @cavedave) but alas it not. Just a mild winter finally. So hopefully my house sells soon and as a starter to packing up I'm gonna try an thin my cellar. Sorry to say I think this I had a little long. Not gonna go for a full review cause it'd be biased.

    Bottle date June 24 2013:
    Looks nice dark toasty black.
Smells like it should huge nose full of roast grain
Taste: well I'm pretty sure it's oxidized, never had an oxidized beer before, but reminds me of Sasquatch's ass crack. Leaves a bad tinny taste in the back of my mouth. O well not gonna pour it out just suffer thru it, gonna put something else in the fridge for later on.

    See y'all in a bit

L - 3 pours a small white head that dissapates quickly. Body is red
    S - 4 raspberry!
T - 4 yeast barley up front but it is over taken by the raspberry. Really sweet
F - 4.5 super light easy to drink beer that is ideal for the warmer months
O - 3.75 treaty drinking beer, first of this kind I've ever had. It's supposed to taste like raspberries and it does. It's pretty sweet so I can only handle one at a time

pours out hazy straw with a quickly dissipating head. wafts of margarita salt. WOW!, sour power man!. this beer is definitely wort trying. its funny, although tart like sour skittles, the salt is just enough.WARNING!, if you try this, pour slow. I did. would pair wonderfully with fish taco's.

Hello again. Well, that last beer was shared with certain biological organisms living below ground and doing wonderful things in waste product remediation. I don't normally share my beer with microbiota but Chestnut Saison SUCKED.

Ahhh, but all it takes to bring forgiveness is to please palate with a perfect pour of potent potable, namely Stone Unfliltered Enjoy By, to erase bad memories and replace them with wonderful pleasures of the IPA variety. This beer rocks. It lulls you in with an alluring sweet and fruity aroma to hit you with a super dank and fruity taste with a bitter backbone that boosts the intensity of deliciousness. Very clean, very strong flavored, very well done. Yes.

Hey again NBS! First time I've ever done a double post here but wasn't a big fan of that Toaster Pastry and here I have a new beer, but also a new brewery for me (and to our state, I believe). Giving Hop Cooler from Ninkasi a shot. I'm pretty sure they just popped up in VA within the last month. My local shop got their first shipment and while I was having a pint I watched two guys, one in a Bend shirt, grab all but two of these off the shelves (the day they went up). Another guy and I sort of looked at each other and we each took one of the last two. I'm not saying "best beer ever!" but I can see why. This is a treat. Cheers!

Poured from a bomber into a Spiegalau IPA glass. Dark amber, crystal clear. Thick, foamy head forms with fantastic retention - 10+ minutes before settling out. The carbonation seems too loose to my eye but it's impressive. Gorgeous lacing - damn near a wall. This is a gorgeous beer. [aside - I tried taking pics for this post but couldn't get any others good enough. Truly a world class gorgeous beer imho]

Nose is a bit one note - citrus. Orange primarily but the hop comes through as a bit of grapefruit. It's very nice but there isn't a lot of balance here.

Flavor is about what would be expected, but for me it's better than I expected. I hate seeing some of this jargon on a label that is verbiage without any clarification (natural citrus, hop cooler etc.). No idea if there is real tangerine zest in here or if there's some concentrated juicy thrown in at the end of the boil. But, putting that aside, the taste is very good. This is orange for sure, but peach comes through huge for me. Hop profile is juicy, balanced. This is a case of the marketing being a bit of disservice in a "book by the cover" sort of way. I almost want to be against the idea of a hop based wine cooler but I can't - this is just too good. The hop notes are all bright and forward with only a drying bitter on the finish. The fruit here is in no way artificial which would be my big gripe. It is what it says, a hoppy cooler but it is bitter, juicy, and refreshing.

Feel isn't anything remarkable. Nothing stands out as off but not overly full or silky. It is long on the bitter finish with a large drying aspect a bit large for this abv. Still, overall this is a really nice beer I will gladly buy again for warmer days. If this came in cans it would be a perfect beach beer.

Ahh, Summer in February. Upper 50's here in N of Boston. The neighbor is out power washing his car, because apparently a regular hose isn't enough. Nothing like deck time with the background noise of a industrial machine. Hmm, what could solve this? A NEW BEER OF COURSE!!
Today is a guilty omission, a somewhat local beer that is one I pass over every time. Today I tried Loose Cannon by Heavy Seas from Baltimore. Nice, refined taste. Would be a beer I would introduce a new convert too. Nothing harsh, but remains flavorful. Back to getting a tan, maybe now the wife will stop nagging me about going to Florida. Cheers.

I can't wait until Rubaeus is here as a year round - we've got distro issues holding it up apparently but it will be welcomed when it arrives. Cheers!

Nice thick luxurious beige head riding this clear copper ruby beer.

Nose has a biscuity thing happening on top of hops that come across more as no ble hops than anything else, as there's a subtle spice component that is at least reminiscent of noble hops.

Taste is immensely complex with an earthy, olive taste that is riding coincidentally with subtle berry, caramel and pine.

Mouthfeel is very slick, like almost greasy. Overall, the body is pretty nice as it's neither things nor thick yet not purposefully medium bodied feeling. Probably sounds stupid but that's the best I can describe it.

    Pretty solid beer.

Had one of these Friday before the show, and found it thoroughly enjoyable. In a broad sense, seemed like a fruit/juiciness nicely replaced the onion/garlic I have been getting from recent Enjoy By offerings that had me skipping the last couple. Some nice reviews from other BAs got me to give this one a chance and I am glad I did.

Yes, I think Ninkasi hit NoVa at most a couple months ago with Oatis. About a month ago I started seeing a few more of their offerings, including the one you reviewed. I found it to be a hop-leaning but fairly balanced offering - to make up styles, a hoppy APA versus a full blown IPA. Either way it came across as a nice, quaffable offering to me.

I think the mixed reviews may come down to a couple of things: hop sensitivity and temperature. I've seen some reports that the colder it is served the more 'dank' it seems. I haven't had it at fridge temps myself, but I do get the tropical fruits each time I have one; I get the dankness as well, but overall I'm happy with the fruity aspect. Sometimes our collective experience with certain hop compounds seems to be all over the map, though, so I bet that's playing into it as well.

    Oppigårds Everyday IPA. Session IPA.

Oppigårds is the largest Swedish craft brewery (at around 15 000 barrels) and they focus on hop-forward beers and this is no exception. The OG is 1047 and the abv 4.6%. IBUs are 70. Hops are Amarillo, Columbus, Citra and Simcoe (they claim to use 13 grams per liter, or 1300 grams per hectoliter, or 3.3lbs per American barrel), malts are pilsner and carapils.

The aroma is nicely hoppy but also very familiar, nothing about the aroma sets it apart from dozens of other hop-forward beers.
The flavor is strongly hoppy (your typical bright American hop flavors) and bitter and the bitterness and hop flavors linger, the body is dry and light but not as light as Founders All Day IPA. It walks a fine line between being just dry enough without becoming overly watery. It's also very clean and the brewery makes a point about it being fermented at a lower temperature than their other ales. I don't think this beer would win over anyone who dislikes session IPAs, but I think it's sure to please anyone who enjoys the style, I certainly enjoy it.

Happy New English Barleywine Style Ale Sunday!

Pretty nice day here on the Western Slopes, we got alittle bit of snow last night and it is just starting to snow again right now, coming down pretty good, low 30s, cloudy. It's been awhile since I last had a BW brew, this is my first from this brewery and it's pretty tasty, definitely would like to try other's from them.

    G' afternoon NBS-ers!!
It's a New Doppelbock Sunday for me; going with a classic.
    Ayinger Celebrator
    [IMG]

Pours a dark ruby red brown body with a soft head of light tan, almost resembling as if it were on nitro, without as much head.

Aromas of dark fruits; plums, figs, some breadiness, cocoa.

A sweet malty body up front gives way to a slightly subtle sourness, for lack of a better descriptor, that doesn't last too long. Tastes like a dark chocolate covered plum or prune. Very tasty.

Medium to full mouth feel, has a lovely velvety smooth feel to it.

Overall, it's easy to see why this is the top dog when it comes to Doppelbocks! I will definitely be drinking more of this in the future.

    Cross posting with WBAYDN#1198.

    Cheers!
