Yep, I was watching those two. Bullshit move and unfortunately one that I see repeated at these things week after week. The casual party atmosphere of an in-line share is nice and all but it definitely makes it easier for shit like that to happen.

Also, I've been to a lot of these (yadda yadda back when you could show up at 1pm and walk with a case yadda yadda) but all it takes is a little common sense to figure when you should get there. Sure, 11 seemed safe before. Now it doesn't. That's kind of how this sort of thing works. I rolled up at 9:45, bought a couple 4-packs and a couple glasses of beer and went home happy. If you drive 2 hours to get there and get shut out, there's this great big city called Columbus nearby that's got all kinds of good beer for you to drink. Instead of jumping on Facebook and bitching about things, go drink in Columbus and take home cans/bottles you don't get where you live.

Also, I don't get how you plan a 4 hour round trip to pick up a limited item and you only go an hour early. I drove to Ann Arbor for a Jolly Pumpkin GR release a while back and showed up 4 hours early just in case. No one was there so I went and had some breakfast, walked around Ann Arbor and once I saw people showing up, I got in line. I know Marengo isn't exactly Ann Arbor but it would probably be a good idea to plan for the worst and give your schedule some wiggle room!

Sucks for all the people that left empty handed but its sad to see a lot of them attacking HH in the comments.

I wouldn't say attacking, just offering suggestive criticism for the future. Some just comes off more snarky than others.

There definitely was some line cutting going on. It's pretty shitty that some people cut in line and got beer while others played by the rules and didn't.

I could hardly hear but I'm pretty sure the canning issue was they were selling so fast they couldn't keep up as a result of opening early.

I was talking to a guy that made the trip from MI. Three hours him and his wife drove and he got shut out. A friend and I traded him some though but it sucks coming that far and not being able to buy some.

Also I forget the time but the sheriff came by and told everyone to get off the street. So it'll be interesting to see future parking. I know the lot across the street from them is for sale. Even after demolishing the building next to the garage and making more spots there still wasn't enough room.

It was my first time.going to one of these releases and I figured getting there earlier was a smart bet. We arrived at 10am and we're happy we did. About 100 people in front of us and with 30 to 45mi s the line was to the street.

They literally had yo open early to get people through and it didn't matter because it was gonna be sold out based on the numbers present.

It sucks people left empty handed. At this point I kinda get the drill. Highly sought after beer that sells out in hours and is only released a few times a month on one day in the middle of no where. That drives up interest in traders and those who will drink their whole allotment alike.

My comment to my buddy a few days before the event was I'd rather show up an hour earlier and wait unnecessarily than an hour later and get shut out.

Great beer for sure, but if I'm being honest the Stunt IPA XIX growler fill and pour I got at JAFB on the way home stole the show. A few people came in after the release including some poor guy and his buddy who got shut out and got a speeding ticket after they left. Me and my buddies gave him some blabe as did others and I think him and his buddy got like 18 cans to take home. You gotta take care of eachother in this community. Maybe next time I run late and he helps me...or someone else.

Canning production as a whole appeared to be normal today, around 200-250 cases or so. Which is about right, given it came out of a 30 bbl tank (which would give around 300 cases given no loss at all, which is unlikely... Plus kegs for draft fills and such).

Doors opened an hour and a half early, I believe only due to the limited parking. They wanted to get people in and out to open parking, which is also why the growler fills were not allowed.

Unfortunately, the line never died down... The "canning" delay was simply because they couldn't supply the "front of the house" quick enough, given how quickly they went through cases.

This was easily the biggest crowd to date, which I expected. The interest alone on here and Facebook was clear enough that it was going to be a doozy. Kept telling my girlfriend that it was going to be the busiest to date, and it was. At 9:40 the line was half way to the street already, crazy. Some people said Dragon Saddle was worse, but you have to remember that the line was down the street at like 11-11:30 for that one. If they waited until then to open today, it would have been worse! The line was already at the road by 10:30 with a strong flow of people rolling in. Another hour would have been insane.

I really do think limiting everyone to (3) four packs would work well. Allow for double the amount of people to get beer. If that doesn't work, go to (2) four packs to triple the capacity. This would also eliminate some muling, as well.

On a positive note, Blabe was good. I think I like Wangbar and Cult better, but once I try more Blabe by itself when at home I'll really give it my review again.

Sorry for those who got shut out today... Def a bummer!

You weren't the only one who noticed that, it bothered me as well. It's been going on for the last few releases and is only going to get worse since the "front of the line bottle share" is getting a bit more popular. Nothing wrong with sharing some beers before they open, but that couple unfortunately wasn't the only ones to skip right to the front of the line with a bottle or two in hand.

Regardless, I'm glad I showed up early enough and I feel horrible for all of those that got turned away. Hopefully they can find a solution to this parking issue, and as much as I would hate it, put in some sort of limit so everyone can get a hold of their beers.

This is all I'll say about it... I'm a HH fanboy (I started this thread), but today really irritated me and here's why: I showed up at 11 and I got shut out. Ok, that's fair. But the brewer (or another employee?) came out about 30-45 minutes before they sold out to tell everyone they were having a canning issue. So after coming out and seeing the line, and having a rough idea of how many cases are left, I feel like it would be pretty easy to eyeball the situation and know at least 100+ people were going to get shut out. At that point they should have either A.) lowered the limit, or B.) told the second half of the line that supply was looking like it was going to run out so those people could go home instead of twiddling their thumbs for another hour until the inevitable happened. /rant. Still love Hoof Hearted and will continue to support them; I'm sure they'll do their best to improve on this in the future as I know they genuinely do care about their customers.

Unfortunately the bottle share up front wasn't the only place people were cutting. Saw quite a bit of it happening today. Man and I thought we were all adults here....

It definitely sucks that people got shut out especially after driving such distances! That being said, with how fast Hoof's popularity is growing I'm surprised people are surprised when they show up an hour before they were supposed to open for one of their most popular releases and don't get beer.

I know certain releases were easier to get beer because of the weather or the fact that they didn't used to be quite so popular, but the word is out. It was unseasonably warm too.

It's clear after today that they need stricter limits (at least for some releases) and they gotta find more parking!

It'll be interesting to see what they do going forward. Limits solves one problem. Their lot is maxed out at this point. I don't know what can be done at this point to accommodate even more people. I predict the Jackie O's collab is going to be the Apocalypse of canning releases. Blabe is awesome, though. If I have to get up at 4:30am to be in line up 6:00-6:30 then so be it. Their beer is worth it.

My first HH release event and it was crazy. My BIL didn't get any beer as they ran out right before he got to the counter. I gave him two of my eight and he bought a four pack from a guy in the parking lot for cost which was nice. I think 12 beers per person is an adequate number and it would allow more people to get some. Also, I would think canning the beer even the day before the event would help speed things up. I had fun and it would have been fun even if I didn't get beer which was very close to happening. Hopefully they figure out a solution because the beer and the events are growing massively in popularity.

They started early because cars were on the road, and they kept coming, for two hours after the cars were already getting parked on the road.

They did this for a good reason--shortly thereafter the Sheriff showed up with tow trucks and started warning people. A good chunk of people then hurriedly left and everyone else brought their cars into the lot.

The canning delays were caused by opening early, nothing else. The reason they open at noon is because they begin canning early so they can have a good stock in order to get people in and out. Canning couldn't keep up with people coming in earlier so the line stopped moving for a good 15 minutes.

    Good problem to have.

Complaining about a small business not being able to handle droves of people from all over the state of Ohio, plus out of state (met some guys from Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin) is just pissing in the wind.

As mentioned multiple times, canning is done by Buckeye Canning, they don't own the canning equipment, and are forced to have releases on Sunday because that's the only time Buckeye Canning is available. I think they would prefer to can ahead of time as well.
