I actually don't know anyone who drinks regular Bud. All of my friends who drink mainstream beer go for the light varieties.

Such a horrible apples to oranges graph showing Bud, Bud Light and Fat Tire (individual beers), compared to Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada (companies). Need to all be companies or all need to be flagship beers, not a mix. Bogus graph.

Ok, splashy headline, but this is over a 6 year timeframe.

And over that same time period, AB also introduced countless other brands that probably cannibalized their own sales from the 2 core brands. Bud Light Golden Wheat, Lime, Platinum, Lime-a-ritas, etc.

Hard to tell if Sierra Nevada is the whole company or their Pale Ale.

Consdiering they don't mention the other brands in the graph in the "article" - if you can call 2 paragraphs that.

I'd rather have Budweiser or Original Coors than their light versions...

Yeah this guy who got an undergrad degree in math with a focus on statistics thinks that is just bad math and data representation.

Did not read the article but over the last 5 years Bud stock has outperformed SAM by over 40% and it pays a nice dividend vs no dividend from SAM.

Your cannibal theory plays well here with out looking deeper into it.

    Enjoy

I'm sure this graphic will be part of New Belgium's (alleged) sales pitch.

Can anyone think of a reason that 2008 was the year they started from? Why 8 years?

This article reminds me of an old quote:"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

    Cheers!

Oh come on man this is journalism, where you don't let some silly math and data get in the way of a good story! :grinning:

It was the year InBev bought AB and also the year of AB's peak year for their US barrelage (107 million bbl), but I sorta doubt either of those was the reason.

But AB is still down over 10 million barrels of yearly sales in the US in that period (2014 = 96 million bbl).

Of course, Bud Light alone still outsells not just Sierra Nevada, Boston Beer and "Fat Tire" but all the rest of the other beers from the 4,000 other US "craft" breweries combined.

People just don't appreciate beer brewed the hard way anymore.

Yeah, they could have presented it in a less manipulative way, and still made the same "point".

I'm no lover of AB InBev, but that graph was just crappy data with no explanation.

Hmmm, let me see, ABInBev now owns less that 1/4 of 1% of the breweries that make flavorful beers and we're supposed to be panicing??

Exactly. That was not really even an opinion looking for an audience. Pure fishing, and maybe pitched to a group. Back in the day, I think I would have received a less than great grade for that piece!

Glad to see that readers here, presumably more in support of Sierra Nevada than of Bud, are not falling for this statistical b.s.

Spot on, Bud is growing everywhere except the United States their sales are up overall not to mention their financials which absolutely kill it.
