I just dont need that much of any beer. but also, I dont trade. 4 bombers is usually about as much of any beer as I would need

You didnt like the last Mirror Mirror? I love that beer

Not the last one, the next batch after the first one (so 2009 I think). IIRC I liked it fresh, but just a year or so later aging had robbed it of all complexities and it was just kind of bland.

Costco in Issaquah had Rye yesterday afternoon, if anyone is still looking. Think there were about 4-5 bottles after I snagged one. $19.99.

    Yeah, that's the standard Abyss.

Yeah - Abyss (and Black Butte Anniversary, Mirror Mirror, etc) are always called "Reserve."

I guess "Reserve" is standard, but the barrel percentages are different on that label shown. Current release is 21%/11%/21%, whereas that label shows 6%/11%/11%. Typo maybe?

Probably just a pre-production label. Deschutes marketing likely took last year's label, photoshopped 2015 on it (and a realistic "Best After" date*), but did this before the beer itself was finished.

    * the label on my bottle says Best After 12/08/16, so even that part of the image isn't accurate. Also, my label shows 21/8/21, not 21/11/21.

I concur, and IMHO, the Rye is even better. So, you now have that to look forward to.

As fond as I am of the regular Abyss, with its multiple barrel types and intricate ratios, these 100% barrel-aged versions just struck me as a definite cut above. I will be quite happy if Deschutes continues to produce an ever-higher percentage of them in the future. Incidentally, has a petition already been started somewhere?

My palate was more excited by the cognac version. I did pick up on the spice of the rye, but maybe it needs a little more time to develop.

Without a doubt, it's safe to say that I was highly impressed with both variants. I'm really looking forward to this new direction for Deschutes!

Same thing for Black Butte3 . I drank a bottle over the weekend and I find it so much better than the regular Black Butte anniversary beer. The 100% barrel aging really helped balance out the sweetness that usually takes a year to mellow out.
