Curious as to what other BAs do in this case. Say you set up a trade to which you've worked out a deal where you are sending 2 bombers and are receiving 2 6packs. If you are sending the 2 bombers, would you not throw in some extra brews since the other guy is obviously paying more in shipping? Just as a courtesy? I would throw in a couple more. Wouldn't you?

If you are asking the question, then you already know.

And shipping costs are sometimes very different.... I brought this up recently. I shipped 2x boxes pretty much on the same day. From Boise to Maine, and the other to the Oregon Coast. The same size box and I always say the same weight (7.2 lbs). The box to Maine took 6-7 business days; box to Oregon took 2x business days. Both cost me the SAME within a dollar.

    And "extras" are "extras".

You might not necessarily pay more in shipping.

Figure this one out, shipped UPS on the same day:

Tiny 4lb box - San Diego to NorCal - $14
Large 12lb box - San Diego to Missouri - $14

The initial charge is the big one. Adding weight doesn't increase the shipping price much. Shipping charges, to me, is like bitching about the gas I used driving to stores to get the beers the BA wanted. Sometimes I'll make up liquid - for example I could trade a single 750mL for a CASE of Zombie Dust. I don't care about the shipping - but I'll make sure the BA has a lot more beer to drink than 25oz when I'm getting 288oz!

Definitely an advantage in cost shipping multiple bottles in a single trade versus spreading them out. However I have a trade going on with a first time trader who felt more comfortable shipping one bottle his first time(no extras), and I am ok with that. He will be getting a lot more than one bottle back, part of that is the trade but he will also get extras as well. I figure pass on some good beer and he will do the same to someone else at some point.

Definitely. I can ship 1 bottle to Indiana for $14 or 12 for $18.

I still haven't had it yet, maybe afraid of the addiction. A local had some for me but drank them all, he is a friend though so it was an understood. Just like he will understand when I drink all his HF stuff :grinning:

Imagine a beer with all the flavor and nose of a huge DIPA - but with 6ish ABV - for $10 a six pack.

    Hooked.

I want those around here, VT is close but get me some MA brewed IPA's soon that are great. Pretty Things Meadowlark is great but at 7.50 a bomber not cheap. Hell the trade I mentioned earlier is for Kern River Citra and I am going to drink the hell out of that Monday night but unfortunately it will be a lonely bottle. I hear their Just Outstanding IPA lives up to the name, maybe I need to trade for some of that.

People are mentioning differences in shipping costs, which is something to consider, but another thing that no one has mentioned is the "pain in the ass factor." Packing up a couple bombers sucks, but packing up 12 singles sucks way worse.

True but when you open a box and find a bunch of bottles it is worth it right?

Agree. I went way over $4$ ( with extras ) on a trade where the other BA was screwed with packing. Wasn't concerned with shipping - just the PITA!

Can't blame you then, someday. In the meantime I can drive a few hours to HF, and along the way pickup Double Sunshine which is almost incomparable at this point. I can't believe how much hop flavor DS has when fresh, never had a beer that compares.

These days, I am trying real hard to find out whats considered to be "good" for the extras from my side. But yea...I've received tons of extras from BCBS (huge thanks Imstillthegman) to very old pale ales and spoiled saisons...

I always include extras, but it's because I know that I like to receive extras. It's a weird fine line between hope and expectation I guess.
