    Then you'd LOVE last year's Ride the Lion from Clown Shoes!

    I might have to trade for one of those at some point.

    Maybe it was just the coffee overwhelming the bourbon on this one for me to where I couldn't pick up on it. I'll have to snag a bottle and give it another shot.

    Also, wow, I can't believe I missed that on the label. I guess I just saw the one part where it only said oak barrels and assumed.

    Pretty sure these are Buffalo Trace Barrels.

    All;
    These are from 2nd use Jim Beam barrels sourced from Duluth Barrelworks via Jim Beam. This version was aged 15 months. It is an entirely different beer than our Double Black.

    Here is the official description;
    This robust version of our black ale features a smooth, chocolatey, semi-roasted malt profile with notes of oak and caramel from extended aging in Bourbon barrels. This iteration of our Double Black Ale features a "Double Shot" of both Cold-Press coffee and whole bean Madagascar Vanilla for an extra level of flavor complexity and is the perfect companion for a late night viewing of the Northern Lights...or can accompany any natural wonder you may come across.

    This year's version clocks in at 11.2% ABV.

    Release is set for next Tuesday, February 9th in both Duluth and the Twin Cities (draft and package). Stores will vary based on our distribution partners/accounts individual shipment and delivery windows. Best to call ahead to the individual stores if you are interested in getting your hands on some. This year's release is very limited (it was brewed over half of our brewery-life ago!!) and we expect it to move quickly.

    For further events and availability please watch our social media (FB & Twitter).

    Cheers!

    Any chance this will see distribution down in Rochester or will it be Duluth/TC only?

    Hey guys, just to give an answer to some earlier questions on here; it is the same recipe as last year's barrel aged double black, though a bit stronger, aged in the same bourbon barrels, then we added TWICE the amount of cold press and vanilla beans as in the vanilla cold press black ale. This beer has never been bottled before, and last year's barrel aged double black has no coffee or vanilla, just a lot of bourbon goodness.

    Anyways hope that helps! Come stop by the booth at the winter dabbler this weekend, I am bringing a half barrel. Cheers!

    Also this is not a black IPA.. At all.

    had double black on tap last year at gold nugget in hopkins and they were telling everyone it was a black ipa. it was a bit funny, then i realized just how much their staff knows.

    Putting a limit of two bottles makes sure that the Twin Cities BA mob doesn't make it up there.

    Drinking this on tap now.. they had a version where they took the beer and put it in additional fresh oak.. not so good.. my girlfriend said this is like drinking a bonfire.. The regular version was quite delicious after it warmed up
