    No, it's what the fest grounds are called. Wies'n = Meadow. The full name is the Theresienwiese -- Therese's Meadow, after the bride of Crown Prince Ludwig whose wedding was the first Oktoberfest.

    the weisn is more of a pilsner style beer so its pretty light vs the marzen which is heavier and has the more traditional caramel malty flavors

    Okay folks, just because it's a pet peeve I'm going to bump Hopfenmaltz' insightful post.

    Wies'n = Meadow.
    Weizen = Wheat.
    Weiß = White.

    i before e, except after c... oh, never mind. :wink:

    I only wish it was in such demand in my area, I only see it in the Fall. :slight_frown:

    Yup, but the Germans don't say I'm going to Octoberfest they say they're going to the Wiesn. Which like you said is short for Theresienwiese. At least in this region of Germany.

    Last fall I saw they still had Edelhell on tap at the Essen Haus German bar in Madison, WI, so it must still be available in the US in kegs at least. I too wish it still came in bottles as well.

    Paulaner Weisn' is way better imho therefore way harder to get:angry:
    In all seriousness It is really good stuff and easy to drink. Sneaky as it is a bit higher in ABV. Less sweat, dryer with a cleaner finish. If you can find it buy it up! It is my favorite beer in my favorite style.

    People in Munich I hung out with said "We're going to the Oktoberfest." But they could have been speaking more formally to "guests."

    But yes, I understand the distinction of the "Wies'n," it's the "party designation." :wink: But it's still the Oktoberfest. :grinning:

    Are both of these beers available in Germany? Outside of the festival, is one more popular than the other? Are their names the same as what's sold over here? (Forgive me if you don't know... I thought you might based on your name.)

    Pretty much the place that covered me off BMC in about 1995. Holds a special place in my heart.

    Both are available, but the amber Märzen is hard to find outside of bavaria.

    They offer a pretty wide range of beers for distribution in the US.

    The most likely case is that your wholesale distributor(s) don't feel its worth getting them in the first place.

    Why is that?

    Should someone running a business that depends on sales to retailers (who then sell to consumers) ignore what the retailers don't/won't order. If the retailers think they won't be able to sell the product, should the distributors in AL or GA go ahead and spend their money on a product that the retailer's won't buy?

    I'm not sure I see the travesty here. Sounds like simply good business to me.

    To be fair your assuming the correct decision is to not make it avaible because of "good bussiness practices" there could simply be no need for them too so they dont bother ie theres no more money to be had by supplying it but they won't lose money by doing it either. You can't assume anything a bussiness has done/or not done as an outside observer is due to good or bad bussiness practices. I've seen plenty of bussiness do things that lose/cost them money and continue to do it and thrive inspite of it.

    I get it. I get supply & demand. Just venturing an opinion, really the whole reason for the site to begin with.
