Hey Guys, my company had a silent auction where the winner could pick out a keg for the office once every quarter until the end of the year. I fortunately won it and am having a little trouble picking out the keg. We have a deal with Kappy's from which we get all our kegs ( We get a lot of them). They can't provide us with a list, but they can special order from the distributer. I'm trying to get a good keg of either a BA Stout or a good BA/Non BA Barleywine. Do any of you know what's out right now in terms of those beers that Kappy's would have access to? Thanks in advance.
I'm pretty sure Kappy's carried barrel aged "You Enjoy My Stout" by Cambridge Brewing Company in bombers, so maybe they have access to it in kegs? I think the bigger question is where do you work and are they hiring?
The one thing I would mention is to be a bit carefull with high-flavor, high ABV beers - are you sure the average person there won't either not touch it the whole time, or go overboard and get tabbed for a DUI on the way home?
At my office, we generally fill the kegs with IPA/DIPA in the 6-8% range, and save higher ABV stuff for once a year "holiday celebration" excuse. When we do that, we try to post a description with the ABV obviously called out, and the core group of beer geeks makes sure to mention it whenever people come over to ask what's new in the keg. At the end of the day, it's up to the employee to drink responsibly (there's no need for 3 pints at the office, jeez) but I feel it's very important that people KNOW what they're getting into; an 11% beer is a far cry from Bud and can be sneaky. At the least, be sure to label appropriately! OP, are you limited to Kappy's? I have always been annoyed how every shop says "oh we can get anything, just tell us and we'll ask the distributor" because it's never true. We special ordered a couple of times, but we have better luck just going to CBC/Marty's/Julios because they are guaranteed to have something awesome in stock. I understand if HubSpot wants to lock in somewhere, so that may not be an option.
Do you have a price limit? That will probably be the most limiting factor, especially considering the type of beer you're interested in. What size kegs can your employer's kegerator hold?
The glassware (plasticware?) next to the keg should act as a hint too. Wine glasses or similar vessels should give a hint the selected beer is not to be guzzled.
Yeah... our Facilities Team has a good relationship with them. Also as an Update, I was able to get a keg of Sebago BA Barleywine, Dragon's Milk and Fierce by off color. We move beer in large quantities so we can't just got get beer.. We have about 900 people here and 20 Taps around our two buildings. We don't have any macrobrews in kegs. We keep all the bud/bud lite in bottles. Also every tap displays the beer and ABV on it. no price limit. If they can get it they will get it.
