Yes, it's another one of these threads.

My fiancee and I are getting married in a local JoP wedding in Sept, but our larger ceremony is this coming May in NH so we can include our families. I am looking for one special beer to share exclusively with my soon-to-be wife in May after our "I do's" and this was the first beer to pop in my mind. Our favorite fruit is the blueberry and Blabaer is the only only seasonal/rotating Cantillon I/we haven't tried. Over the last couple of years, I've seen varying reviews of the beer...ranging from "overly hyped" to "best lambic ever". I imagine most opinions lie somewhere in between.

Bottom line - is it worth trading for? If so, what is a 375 or 750 going for lately, respectively?

Any information is appreciated and thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Ryan

375ml usually trades for an arm. Sometimes someone generous will accept an ear.

750ml usually trades for a leg. Depending how long ago the last release was, it could require a nut.

Always makes my day when someone recognizes what my avatar is .

I really hope you can land that Blabaer. I threw out my best offers once but it was not to be.

I traded my 2011 750 for a Brandy Vanilla DL. Hope that helps somehow.

I was very fortunate in achieving mine. A 375ml of 2012 Blåbær straight up for a KH.

How about aiming for a Cascade Blueberry instead. Also delicious and would cost you much less

LeBleu as alternative comes to mind. It also requires some ammo, but less.

Blabaer is costly to obtain, hard to find, to say the least.

Agree LeBleu is assumingly a suitable replacement...traded with a great BA for one last year, really enjoyed it, and may have to go that route if I don't find myself willing to gather the ammo for Blabaer.

Never had a Cascade Blueberry...and regardless of occasion, I'll have to put out an ISO for that one.

Just drank a Cascade Blueberry last night and it was hard to discern a difference from Cascade Strawberry. I would not really consider it a replacement at all. LeBleu, on the other hand, may be more reasonable as far as fruit flavor and complexity.

I don't want to find out how much I would enjoy this beer.... LeBleu is hard enough to land, and I don't want to go too deep into the rabbit hole!

Well by that argument, St. Lamvinus is also frighteningly close to Blabaer.

And for the record, LeBleu is absolutely nothing like Blaebaer. Not at all. I wouldn't compare Sprite to fresh lemonade.

i've never bothered trying to get blabaer, but i bet it's worth it. i think blueberry is one of the best / the best idea for a fruit in lambics/wild ales. works so well.

that's all the input i've got:slight_smile:. my point is just, it seems like a mountain whereby if you climb it, it's pretty reasonable to assume you'll end up satisfied. it's a cantillon lambic with blueberries, how bad could it be?

    ---

edit: to put it another way, if your question is "what does it take?" i defer and let people with experience answer.

if it's "is it worth it?" you know already from reviews, the cantillon you've already had, and blueberry sour beers you've had that you're only asking this to either 1) get over the intimidation/sticker shock hump, or 2) talk yourself out of trading for it, whichever fits your attitude.

In my super duper humble opinion, blabaer isn't appreciably better than any cantillon found on the shelf. Overall, St. Lam is a better beer, for instance. If you're after blueberries, lebleu or upland blueberry is the way to go. There's no mistaking blueberry in blabaer but its much stronger in the nose than it is in the flavor.

Cascade Blueberry tasted nothing like blueberries on tap or from the bottle. Le Bleu has tasted like blueberries both batches that I have tried. Blabaer tastes like blueberries to me, although not very strong. On that point alone, I think that Le Bleu is more like Blabaer. Just an opinion.

Do you think that's just the way they intended it to be(not a bad thing) or do you think it's because the average blabaer logs 16,825 miles on UPS/FedEx trucks, and spends 4.7 years in a dorm-room-closet/cellar?

Drinking blabaer now and agree with the upland blueberry comparison over cascade or lebleu, not impressed with the later two.

To this point, I have to say I'd likely be more willing to chase Upland/Cascade/Ithaca based on blueberry prominence (particularly since none of them are to blueberry as FMB is to hazelnut...if you know what I mean) and, as Pahn alluded to, not having to offer up half of my cellar to try and land a Blabaer. Some folks sent private messages detailing some prior trades involving insane ammo. 3-5 reasonably available phenomenal brews > 1 not-so-available phenomenal brew.

Thanks to those who provided insight thus far...it appears you've validated what I initially believed when starting the thread.

I went international and was able to obtain a 375 of Blabaer for a large quantity of semi-rare American stuff instead of one super rare bottle. You obviously have to find the right trader, but it's doable.
