Are you proud of your ticks? Does it bother you when other people tick?

There is nothing wrong with cataloging your beer drinking journey.

It's hard to call anyone on BA a ticker after seeing the review madness on RB.

Depends what you define as ticking. I like doing in depth reviews of full 12+ ounce beers very often, 2-3 per day. If it is a taster glass or something it won't get recorded in writing, same with going to a bar. lol, reviewing from memory isn't enough IMO. That is like a majority of RB reviews; really poorly written and 3 sentences(in fact some hardly even have 3 sentences).

Regardless, I dont give a crap what other people think about the insane amount of different beers I buy and review accordingly. Makes me a better homebrewer too with a wide knowledge of all the styles.

I try to review any beers that are new to me. That way I have some concrete reference point when shopping for beer or recommending beer to others in the future. I'm not sure what you call that though?

Call it beer reviewing. IMO ticking is having 2-3 ounces of a beer and attempting to give a review of it. Not possible IMO. I need at least 12 ounces of a product to get an accurate opinion of a product. I have had samples before, and then the full bottle/glass later and both opinions were different.

Also as far as recommending beers, I think its pretty hilarious; but I can give full flavor profiles of beers I havent had in over a year to people who are browsing at the store and asking for recs. Maybe my beer memory is just too good.

You mean you don't take a computer to tastings with a spreadsheet that automatically generates reviews from half-ounce samples?

Do you tick threads? Because you create an awful lot of them

What's up with "I don't tick and I don't like people that do"?

Seems pretty negative and entirely unnecessary. Why would I not like a person who enjoys ticking? Makes no sense.

I have heard from multiple people that there is a guy who does this. One of the guys on RB who has thousands of "reviews".

None of your answers fit me, so I didn't vote.

I tick, and don't give a shit about pride associations. Sometimes a tick is worth it, sometimes it is not. That is all.

Sometimes a tick evolves into a favorite, but rarely - most beer is only okay, thus I tick to weed out the half-assed beers

I'm assuming by ticking you mean keeping track of the beers you drink, taking them off your list as you go. I take a picture and write a review of 99% of the beers I try.

Reviews like this are really valuable though:

Goose Island BCBS: "Thought I was ready for this. One of 4 things happened. 1. I was too drunk to appreciate it. This is definitely true, but still I didn’t enjoy drinking it, struggled to swallow... though I was so gone I was horribly sick shortly after about 10ml. 2. My palate isn’t ready for it. Feels true, but I spend most of my life feeling like a charlatan and hell I’ve drunk loads of lovely imperial stouts I’ve adored (well, about 5... is that loads? No.) 3. It doesn’t taste very nice. Shock! Horror! But why? Tasted like a fortified wine to me (sorry, too drunk to remember any particular flavours... not sure why I’m apologising, you don’t care)... but as I have explained previously, I don’t think I know what I’m talking about... see... charlatan, told ya! 4. ? I guess it’s all down to taste, that’s the beauty of all this nonsense right?"

I tick when I can't review (time, non-smart phone, etc). My goal is to try every beer on the planet that has every been brewed by anyone. T'will never happen, but it's a nice journey.

The problem with ticking 2-3 ounce samples is that there is no allocation for time. Its just down thew hatch, a couple of blah blah meaningless numbers are jumbled down and its next. Twelve ounces will do the trick but inorder to really get what you're tasting you also have to let it evolve your glass. Production line consumption is total BS.

Now I firmly believe in the northyorksammy school of thought; rate it and move on.

im a ticker at heart in that if i see a beer i havent tried and i am curious about it i will buy it, BUT i dont take the time and effort to check in to untappd or click a thing on BA just to record how many I have had. i generally remember if i have had a beer and if i don't, then i should have it again.
