When you go "beer shopping"

I'm very whale-averse; I'm confident that the shop owner (given how quality the shops are around me) has something just as good on his shelves. Cherry pickers are bad for small businesses.

 

Honestly, I find it damn near impossible to go into a bottle shop/beer store and not buy something regardless if I'm looking for anything particular of not.

 

If I'm on the hunt for a specific brew that I know is a 'limited release', I ask them if they're going to get again at some point.

If they aren't expecting another shipment, I move on to the next one.

If they are going to get another shipment eventually, I buy a beer to hold me over and then come back another day.

So, I guess my answer is... "It depends..."

 

If it's something that will probably sell out then I will normally call first and ask if it's in, then ask if they will hold it for me so it's not sold out by the time I drive there.

Most of the time I just drive to a bottle shop without searching for anything in particular and pick up some stuff I like.

 

I'm probably one of the few who doesn't usually go out looking for anything specific so the first option

 

Where I live, if one or two shops don't have it, nobody will so it's pretty easy for me to shop.

 

i voted but agree you need a both option. i am very loyal to a small mom & pop place. they are growing and know that i've been coming in since they started so on occasion they will hold something for me. if i know they aren't getting it then i'll go elsewhere. distro sucks where i am in PA. i'd have to drive at least 1 hour round trip if i wanted to go some place that "usually" has a good selection.

 

If I don't find a specific sought-after beer, I usually buy at least one bottle of something else because I feel kind of bad walking out of a shop empty-handed. I've done so, but only if I've already picked up everything else on my list and already laid out a lot of $.

 

More likely to just buy something at the first place unless it's something I'm very specifically hunting for. There aren't (m)any stores that don't have at least a few beers I really dig.

 

Buy different beer at the first store, I can't be bothered to drive around town wasting time looking for a specific beer.

 

Both. I rarely come out of a bottle shop empty-handed. Even if there's something specific I'm looking for and they don't have it, I can always find something else to buy. Then I'll probably go someplace else to see if they have what I'm looking for. Oh, and I never call ahead. What fun would that be?

 

I'll find something I never heard of before and give it a try.

If nothing jumps out at me I will buy a bomber of something new and give it a try. That's half the fun of craft beer.

Neither actually. I don't go into shops looking for something just coming out as the OP said. When I go into a shop its 'cause I want some beer! If there's something limited that I might find interesting, I'll get it. It's why I like doing mix sixer's
