Just picked up a sixer of Pineapple Sculpin bottles (in Charlotte, NC). Clear Julian dating is printed on the BOTTOM of the bottles, which seems to be a major improvement over the old label printing. Hope it is a sign of what's to come on all BP brews from here on out.

It'd be nice if they went the Creature Comforts/Stone route and put a bottled on date (MM/DD/YY) and a best by date in the same format. Not sure why breweries even fool around with a Julian date.

The best way to do it is to put a born on date and best by date

At least they're is heading in the right direction

But only beer geeks will know what that means. For a company like BP who is trying to hit the everyday beer drinker, maybe they should be more upfront with that beer drinker. If his first experience with BP a 6 month old sculpin, he might not come back

It may just be me, but thought I'd share with you guys. Recently noticed Ballast point bottle dates not being on the bottom corner of the labels anymore. Just realized they are stamped on the bottom now, with a yellow ink that rubs off like Stones old ones however it is alot easier to read than the old stamp. Anyone notice any other changes with taste or anything yet since the buyout?

Julian date on the bottom is good with me, best by dates are useless unless I know how far out the brewery is saying the beer is 'best by' (which isn't always easy to find). If a brewery wants to put both, that's fine but I only care about the bottling/canning date, don't care if it's julian, mm/dd/yy or whatever.

Nice! it will be easier to read now. Now we need Lagunitas to make their more visible. :stuck_out_tongue:

While it is certainly an improvement, Julian dating is dumb as fuck

I agree. Simplicity at it's best. I can never figure out the dating on Lagunitas bottles. I love Hop Stoopid but often get caught with older bottles which lose a lot. Makes me a bit gun-shy to purchase at times.

I think great divide does the bottle date best. Nice and clear on the label. Sometimes dates on bottles fade.

I like Julian dating, feel like it separates us from the regular person that doesn't know any better

I caught that, on a 6er of Even Keel my brother picked up recently. Unfortunately, it was from sometime in October or November of last year, so needless to say, the beer was pretty...interesting. Didn't even see it until it was already purchased and poured at home. The date that was on mine was etched into the bottle, not printed as the image above shows, so it was tough to make out. Not sure when they started this setup, but I can attest that they've been at it for at least 4 months.

I'll never understand why people have issues with Julian dating, I'll take that for a born on date over some 'convenient' best by MM/DD/YY date anytime. YMMV

because a born on date...10/12/16 is easily printed and more easily decifered than f5z15B is. It's a flat out deception for the sole purpose of confusion on the freshness of beer

Bullshit, it's not that complicated and less characters.

I'll also add that Julian dates are universal... 10/12/16 is December 10 in most other countries

Maybe it just me, I don't know but if I got to stand there in the middle of the store and raise the bottle up and spin it, close one eye then take that three digit number and cipher in my head the bottle on date, which I've done before I usually just put it back on the shelf and grab something easy to read that has a date.
