Yes, and those can come from simple sugars to starch, as long as there are enzymes to reduce the starch to simple sugars.

Dry yeast is often grown up using molasses as a source of the sugars.

So, beer is not craft if the wrong kind of people enjoy it?

The Lager used to be as well. It spent the first couple of years of its existence as a very cheap beer. Nothing has changed about it but the price. It is drifting down a bit from what I see. For a while in the early 2000 it was priced about 2 or 3 bucks per case above bud.

I surrender, your right it's brown so it must be craft beer. AAL and craft beer are no longer mutually exclusive i guess. The term Craft beer means nothing. Shut down this site because beer is all the same. JK but in all seriously,

Cheapest MGO corn that he starves the farmer to get at his price he dictates. Blew away the union so he can keep wages stagnant while the company explodes profit wise. Ditched the Coal region for florida to build a new brewery while his home town is dying of unemployment. I dunno to me those type of behaviors don't seem have anything to do with brewing a great beer but are rather pure business. Craft beer is supposed to have a soul no? Yeungling doesn't have that anymore.

I don't know if the detail is enough to satisfy what you are looking for but it was enough of a reason for me to quit drinking it. Even if I still drank it I wouldn't call it craft. Simply if for no other reason, yeungling hasn't ever made an attempt a innovating beer. They never vary off the reservation and take a chance. Maybe some of their newer beers qualify as craft but I just don't think they measure up.

    Cheers,

Somehow, taking all of your rants against Yuengling in total, even with the smilie, it doesn't seem to be a joke at all.

If you can count yuenglings premium beer since they are crafty now

I think it could be a good thing because it gives non craft drinkers an option and it may make them curious to try more from that brewer.

You need to do a bit of fact checking. While planning/building a 2nd brewing facility not far from the hometown (Pottsville) brewery Yuengling bought an existing brewery in Florida, thereby both saving jobs in Florida and adding new jobs in that PA region you are so concerned about. There are now three breweries active.

I respectfully disagree. Both the Summer Wheat (Hefeweizen) and IPL are high quality craft beers.

I was hoping that you had some genuine insight here but I was wrong.

    Have a nice day/evening.

There are quite a few examples of craft brewer's making AAL's. My favorite I've tried so far is Jack's Abby's Framingham Lager. It was an unusual choice as far as anniversary beers go. Most breweries go extreme, bu Jack's Abby does their (far superior) version of a Bud Light. Props to them for breaking the mold.

So the new brewery promised if they decertified the union is where? What's the address of the new brewery in Pottstown?

The Yuengling workers in Pottsville (not Pottstown)voted to decertify their Teamster membership in 2006. The "new" brewery just outside of town in Port Carbon opened 5 years earlier, in 2001, and is usually referred to as the "Mill Creek" brewery.

As I recall it, they already had plans to build the Mill Creek facility when the Schlitz-build Tampa, FL brewery was closed when Stroh went out of business in 1999, and Yuengling bought it and re-opened it in 2000. Those workers were represented by Teamsters Local 79, not sure if that is still the case.

Whether there is any real innovation in brewing as opposed to adding any matter of strange things is open to question. The standard beers of today are the result of massive innovation by our predecessors , we don't need to reinvent the wheel.
But a brewer has to be innovative to be craft ? Brew a beautifully fashioned Pale Ale and it isn't craft regardless of the skill involved ,but add a dead dog to the brew and a hint of violet dye and it's suddenly craft?

honestly, price. you can make that kind of beer, make it consistent, and make it a bit more to your/our/whatever liking than bud is. but unless that's all you do and you invest a lot up front, i don't know how you could make your small improvement worth it to justify people paying $3~6 dollars more per 6pack for your pseudo-bud.

I'm drinking a dutch pilsner right now.
It is light & refreshing like an AAL, but with a nice bready/biscuity backbone and hops you can taste (although not very hoppy like American pilsners)
It doesn't use corn or cheaper adjuncts.
I would welcome more beers like this in the USA.

I have a physically demanding job and can't tolerate heavier craft beer after a shift.
On the other hand I get sick of corn light lagers.

So yea, I would like more light lagers/pilsners brewed without cheap adjuncts.
The lagers/pilsners brewed by craft brewers are still rather heavy and they miss the sweet spot that Euro lagers find.
    Cheers
