Anybody heard any updates on when this brewery is opening? I see Spring 2016 on their facebook page (and also in news articles).

I haven't seen anything regarding the progress of this one.

Given that Nathan Walser is one of the owners (and I'm going to assume head brewer), I'm definitely excited as hell about this. For those of you who have never heard that name, Nate was head brewer @ Founders (while they were in the Brass Works Building), head brewer @ Perrin (when they first opened), and has some amazing beer recipes.

    From Perrin:
    Grapefruit IPA
    Golden Ale
    Raspberry Blonde
    Kona Brown
    Black Ale
    Perrin IPA

    From Founders:
    Breakfast Stout
    Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS)
    Centennial IPA
    Devil Dancer Triple IPA
    Dirty Bastard
    Oatmeal Stout
    Pale Ale
    Porter
    Reds Rye IPA
    Rubaeus Raspberry Ale

Dude definitely knows how to brew some awesome stuff!

Hopefully Nate is on BA and can chime in with some updates (or anybody with a little inside information).

Excited for this to open. I know they have equipment and are starting to brew very soon, so I would guess in the next couple months. official date should come out soon

They have been doing a lot of work on the building inside and out over the last two months. Really looking forward to this as well. I think MLIVE is going to do another article on them soon (maybe next couple weeks).

Did he do malted milk ball too? I "heard" the person who owned the recipe left and that is why they no longer brew it. Not sure if it is true....but makes sense since it was one of their more popular beers and no where to be seen.

I'm not sure, but I don't see him claiming that on his LinkedIn page (very possible though).

I'm glad I'm not alone in my excitement for this place (although I'm hoping they don't get too much excitement - I'd still like to be able to buy their beers, which I'm pretty confident will be awesome out of the gate).

I think that brewer and recipe went to Bravo Zulu in TC, although I don't know if he ever brewed that beer there, or if he left there and is now starting this brewery.

I know Sam (former Head Brewer @ Perrin IIRC) is head brewer at Bravo Zulu , so this may be his recipe. Sounds like they've got a good thing going up there.

I know Nate has done a lot of consulting work (like setting up equipment/training staff for Hopcat in GR). Just looking at his pedigree, it seems that everywhere he's had his hands have done awesome things. (See: White Flame, Perrin, Petoskey - Never personally had but heard good things, Hopcat, Founders, New Holland - I believe this was his first commercial brewing stint).

I should probably stop hyping this place up so much if I want to ever buy a beer here .

Edit: Had to change a few things around after re-reading some information...

I could be very wrong..But I think Malted Milkball is Nate's recipe... My reasoning is this...Bravo Zulu has never brewed Malted Milkball...Which, imo would be stupid as people would come all over the place to have that beer..They push the heck out of that cherry bomb, which is real good..But its not MM

It is his, was the last big thing he did there before he left. not totally sure of recipe ownership, but he definitely brewed the milkball

I can confirm....Sam Sherwood at Bravo Zulu is the "owner" of the Malted Milk Ball recipe. He used to make it at The Walldorff in Hastings before he went to Perrin

So we have one for Nate and one for Sam. I hope its Nate since that is 3 minutes from my house and Bravo is 2 hours.

If Sam, kind of weird that he doesn't brew it at Bravo...but who knows, maybe there is a batch in barrels right now.

When talking with Nate about the beer while it was on tap, he mentioned that it was his "last horah", the conversation was slightly after Nate had left Perrin. To me, this means that it was his.

I do not recall ever seeing the Milkball at Waldorff or Sam ever mentioning it before, However, I am not local to Waldorff and it could have happened. I really don't care who it belongs to, Nate and Sam both make great beer, and both breweries will succeed. I hope that which ever one it does belong to(strongly believe Nate), will make it again. I do not think this is an important enough question to bother them with a phone call, but if it comes up in conversation I will ask.

You may have missed the "I can confirm" part....it is Sams beer. He hasn't made it at BZ because the owners don't have the funds to process it. The amount of malt in that beer is mind blowing (think Monster29 and its struggle to be made again)! I visited Sam last month and he talked about the owners seeking someone to lease part of the brewery out because of all the unused space and amount they spend on rent.

Malted Milk Ball was on tap at Walldorff for months at a time when Sam was there with no one buying it because it was too heavy for the locals...I used to score growlers of it so he could turn the tap over to something locals would drink

Talked to Sam. He did indeed write the recipe and brew Malted Milk-ball. Sorry for misinformation, I guess I must have mis-remembered the conversation with Nate. Kinda bummed, because I was hoping Nate would brew this at Greylline .

It's not very widely known even though Sam posted it on his FB page. The brewery has a PR in the works. IMO, Right Brain does have the space to do a Malted Milk Baltic Porter!

Just got the PR from Right Brain. Officially Sam has been hired as their head brewer.
