I never even think to check out the build a six pack at the grocery store. Apparently I should

The highest-end beers I've ever found on the singles shelf are 90 Minute and Duvel, both of them only once. Higher Math, are you shitting me? How can even the stupidest employee not notice that it's over $40 for a 4-pack?

Ugh, that's awful. At least they're cold though. I've never seen a mixer section that wasn't room temp.

There's a pretty decent selection at the grocery store I primarily go to as far as widely distributed stuff (Founders, New Belgium, etc) and then there's some local breweries represented too. I've never found anything "rare" as a single, it's generally pretty common beers. But there's a lot of classic, essential beers so it's a good way to tick a brewery's core offerings or their seasonal beers. Where I go, it's about $11, which is about average for a 6 pack of craft around here.

I have never seen a store offer a mix 6 pack selection for a specific price. They are always individually priced.

^ You can get individuals at the store I'm talking about also, but I think it works out to be a dollar or two cheaper to just get the full 6 beers. And I can always find 6 beers I want to try so that's what I always do. :sunglasses:

I don't find gems like that in AZ. I build six packs at Total Wine. Most of the time I leave with a 14 to 17 six pack as they divide the cost of a six and mark it up a tad. Sucks but oh well. To get around the fresh issue I just pull from the six packs and not the singles section. Might be a dick move but I rarely get good customer service there.

Funny thing - just after posting above, my daughter was leaving for her boyfriend's house and was taking him a wooden six pack holder she bought him online, with his sports team on it. I asked her if she wanted to fill it, and we proceeded to put together an assortment of beers I bought a few months ago, before I got into craft - so a lot of Sam Adams - pretzel, cold snap, pumpkin, a regular Sam, a Mike's, and a New Castle. Cellar clean up! Hey - that's what the stores are doing!

Best value I have near me is Craft Beer Cellar, you can take a single of anything in the store and they do a 10% discount based on 6x the cheapest bottle in the pack. Given their selection and generally good prices its the best mix-six scenario I've encountered thus far.

All the local grocery stores have that, @ $10/6. The local beer store has singles, with a qty discount. I usually just get a single or 2 there, as the price is generally higher, & there's many I've already had. Occasionally I'll get the mixed 6 at Weis*, especially in the summer, when I get out of work on a Sunday after the beer store is closed. They do have a decent selection most of the time, & I've never seen anything old. It's part of the refrigerated beer section : 3 stacked shelves, x 25 W, 6 deep, well-lit. They do a good job displaying it, so it probably helps turnover.
The last one was about a month ago : Bell's Amber,Founder's Dirty Bastard, Ithaca Embrrr (Rye Porter), Roscoe Beer Co. Trout Town Rainbow Red, Samuel Adams Rebel IPA, and Wachusetts Blueberry> As expected, drain-pour, (or would have been, if I hadn't given the rest to my Swillwaukee's Best-loving neighbor. ) but I had to try it. That ol' monkey-curiosity will get you.

    * Price Chopper's selection is less, and occasionally dusty (shelf turd alert!). Wegman's is on the other side of The Great-Wall-Of-Traffic. ( 17 & 81 construction. )

Malthead- exactly what I thought. It was before I even knew what the stuff was, but saw the yellow cap and grabbed it. Pulled a ton of 90 mins, ommegangs, Belgians out in the past. I do think they are just trying to get older stuff of the shelves, but I'll take it.

Also, does anyone know how to quote a reply in the app? Don't see the option.

look to the far right side of the screen in the persons post...you'll see like...+quote...reply. Tap on +quote then hit insert quotes bar to quote and reply to said quote. Wait a minute, I don't have the app...nevermind

Six Corsendonk tripples. I left a few behind but it isn't every day you get to buy that stuff for 1.50 per bottle.

11.99 at Wegmans for a mix-n-match sixpack. Have found bottles of Spencer, Kwak, Anniversary Barleywine, Tannen Zapfle, Tarte Nouveau, Vichtenaar, and more.

Local WF had a 4-pack of Backwoods Bastard listed at nearly $20, but when I only grabbed two bottles I payed $5.

With the 12oz singles, you have to make sure to check the date; I've seen half year old IPA sitting there on the shelf.

In my experience, places that have a dedicated "Mix-a-Six" section sell the 6-pack for $10-14 using beers that are each $8-10 a sixer anyway.

Every time I go to get beer I always tell myself in gonna get a four/six of something awesome and not a mix six...but when I get there the quantity instead of quality part of my monkey brain kicks in and I usually walk out with a mix six.

I have found some nice cellar addition and some great beers I never would have tried otherwise this way though
