Some people are happy. Some aren't. That's life.

Back to clam gun militias and airship armada talk.

According to some folks, we may need to upgrade the airship armada with a bunch of mule cannons for extra air to ground support.

I'm firmly with you on that one. My first (and sadly only) visit to de Garde to this point was on a random weekend. My girlfriend and I were the only people there aside from two dudes from Bellingham of all places that showed up not too long before we left. It was fantastic to have the whole place almost to ourselves as we drank outstanding beer. We're going back next month on another random weekend and I'm sure we'll have every bit as much fun. I'm sure the parties are a blast but there's plenty to be said for just hanging out at standard hours. The beer will still be every bit as delicious.

Pivoting from the tearfest, anyone know what their typical special release count is? First de Garde party, and trying to get a handle on how much cash to come with. Haven't seen any posts about exactly what's being released yet.

edit: Just noticed the last line of their info post, guess it'll be released as we get closer.

For the last several, at least, the allocation has been a case and around $150. I bring $200 cash pp for allocation, extra tickets, tips for those pouring, and food on-site.

Right. Sometime before the party, they will post the beers available, allocation & cost of each beer, and the total cost for a full allocation.

Or maybe they won't this time, seeing as they seem to have changed their focus from brewing world-class beer to being inconsiderate pricks who troll people and ruin their lives. Please god, let the sarcasm of that sentence be obvious.

Picked up my tickets today. They said they were going to do a secret NE vs NW IPA battle instead of releasing their beers.

Something about insufferable assholes on BA, I don't know.

I've seen 150 bottles in a couple different spots. Not sure how accurate that is. Must be low with 1/pp limit

Limit is 1 bottle/person, not sure on the quantities. Was there today and picked up 2 with a buddy. $15/bottle.

On the bright side, at least we have world class beer to fight over

Look, we DO owe our customers/stalwarts who ride the wave of experimentation and growing pains and still come back. That's the point. Right? When an event doesn't meet your expectations, it may be helpful to step back and consider that the brewery knows it, too. They will likely do better next time. However, sometimes shit goes weird in the retail world and we are caught off guard.

The big picture is most breweries in the PNW are run by awesome folks who are trying their best. We owe our friends the courtesy to always improve but it is not too much to ask for a little give and take in the relationship. De Garde is run by amazing folks who are doing their best to meet all expectations with limited beer quantities and no crystal ball telling them how each event will succeed or fail to meet their intentions. Let's all take a breath, relax and have a Homebrew. It's grounding...because it's really just beer. Beer should be mellow, man.

Hey @deGardebrewing, have an actual beer question. Shocking, I know.

Cracked open my Biere Peche tonight and it poured nearly still. Just a hint of tangy carbonation with no bubbles. Tasted pretty good, but got to be hard to drink after about 8 ounces or so. Was it brewed this way or did I get a dud? Not upset or anything, just curious.

Soooo.... have consumed entirely too much good wine in the warm sunshine of Santa Cruz today, so it's time for a couple of philosophical observations.

Popular, limited release events like the one coming up at dG happen all over the country now, and I continue to see brewers and owners struggling, trying to figure out the most fair way to allocate a limited supply of event tickets, bottles, etc., for an increasing number of consumers and event participants. It's nice to see, and I appreciate their concern, but if there's one thing I've learned, it's that no matter how fair and well thought out the process, there are going to be discontented and disappointed consumers. For those folks, it really doesn't seem to matter the intention of the brewer/owner... all that matters is that they didn't succeed in getting theirs, so by definition the process must be flawed.

Hey, I get it, that's just human nature, but it's hard not to be a bit annoyed when I read the post above from Trevor, who has done everything possible to produce an excellent product at a very affordable price. On top of that, each event I've been to has been better than the previous one, precisely because he obviously does care about his consumer base, and so does everything he can to make sure dG events are well run, seamless and fun affairs, where everyone is able to pick up their desired allocation of bottles without undo hassle or wait. Seems to me that ought to be way more than good enough, but of course it never is, and so I/we have to read the sort of half apology above, just so that any disappointed dG fan doesn't feel dG doesn't care about them any more, just because they didn't get a personal, engraved, embossed invitation to the next release event.

So just to put things in perspective a bit... I'm pretty sure I won't be able to go to the next dG event, and while that's a disappointment, I think I'll likely get over it. There will be other events in the future, and maybe next time luck will be on my side. Hell, maybe I'll even enjoy the next event all the more, precisely because I missed out on the last one. Regardless, continue to do what you do best... making great beer at a very affordable price that most consumers love. IMHO, the release events are fabulous, but they're just gravy... your beer is very good, and so of course consumers from all over the country want to attend those events. However, unless you figure out a way to hold an event where everyone who wants to attend the event can get a ticket (and unless you know a venue in Tillamook that can accommodates tens of thousands of fans, I wouldn't hold my breath), there are always going to be disappointed dG fans. Some of them are going to be a bit vocal about their disappointment, because that's just the way people are. Pay it no mind... you have absolutely nothing to apologize for. Keep on keeping on.

    Cheers!
