I don't know him, not judging him at all, just busting his balls for being a Blackhawks fan

Hey the wings have a rich history but right now it's the Hawks time. I'll admit I won't ever get bored watching Datsyuk. But then again I'm busy watching the silky laws of Kane.

I believe it stands for "Friendly Illinois Brethren"...or at least that's what i've always gone off.

    Cheers

As much as I hate the Hawks, they've been the best franchise of the past 8 years (as the Wings were the previous 12). To keep on topic, got a Wednesday ticket.

Indeed, particularly when one is using the term in a joking manner.

Did the same except on my Samsung. It was less than 5 seconds and I kept thinking I fucked something up. And I did it on McDonald's WiFi waiting for another beer release to start. Yesterday was a good day.

Cool. Only another month till I can read the thread about how average KBS is compared to all the other beers out there now.

Are there really shops that will hold KBS for a stranger based on an unsolicited phone call?

You're right that the worst you can hear is no, but I also suspect that's the only thing you would hear.

Friend of mine from out of state called a local shop here and they set aside three 4pks for him, which I picked up for him. True story. Most shops do lists, support your local shop and ask them now about KBS. That said, its easy to trade for with any number of comparably priced 12oz BBA stouts. It's only beer, lets not make it into more than that.

Got a Friday! Well technically I didn't, my fiancé got Saturday then went back and got me a Friday. I couldn't get one to save my life!

Yes, there really are shops that are THAT generous to complete strangers. Not everybody in the beer community is an entitled asshole  (although admittedly that group grows each year). I don't think people realize how much KBS many of these stores are getting lately...

Why do you think bottles keep appearing in West Michigan (and likely the east side too)? Answer is because many of these stores held a case or 3 back for just these occasions (Super Bowl a few shops had KBS, and BCBS available at fair prices for example).

Instead of taking the time to type a few sentences about what you assume won't happen, make the phone call and see what will happen. Just be polite and respectful, and see where it gets you...

I'm pretty well-informed on my local area, I think the problem is we're comparing experiences in West Michigan to experiences in SE Michigan, which are very different. You guys just seem to get more KBS there. You talk about stores holding back "a case or 3"? That would be the entire allocation at most stores around here.

I know none of the stores I frequent would hold back KBS (or BCBS, etc.) for someone who cold-called them. It's not cause they're dicks, they just really don't have enough to go around, so it's usually apportioned in one (or several) of 4 ways:
    1) In-store sign-up sheet (ordered)
    2) In-store sign-up sheet (with Lottery)
    3) Hold for regulars
    4) First-come, first-serve

I'll grant you that the sign-up sheets aren't that much different from the cold-calls, but at least it gets people into their stores. Then I suppose there's a fifth option: charge such high prices that supply and demand equilibrate, which is common at some of the smaller, less craft-centric stores.

I got shut out on all days. Can't believe it. First time in 2 years that I don't have a KBS ticket. I forgot to set an alarm on my phone, saw something on Facebook at around noon, and said oh shit! Quickly checked the site and it said "sold out", and I only had one browser tab open. It's all Founder's fault. Bastards!

Haha, I actually forgot about it one year. My buddy called about 11:30am to see what day I got and I was like " oh ****!"

    ?
U speak the truth. The gouging and all that will be extreme in metro detroit. I dont think the west michiganders have any idea what it was like to even get hopslam this year around here. I will have to beg to pay $8+ a bottle for KBS. Oh and bcbs.....forget about it. This is why Im bummed I got shut out this year. I absolutely despise dealing with these small liquor store owners......basically begging them to allow me to buy a couple bottles for some crazy price. I was more than happy to make the 2.5 hour drive to founders to buy my 12 bottles without dealing with these assholes. The only fair places around here (8 degrees and Holiday) will have lines to buy........thats what its like here in SE MI.

According to Founder's Facebook page, they mention in the comment section to report any price gouging to social@foundersbrewing . com

I agree with you, I'd much rather drive 2.5 hours to Founders from SE Michigan than deal with the numerous bottle shops around here. I'm lucky to have one shop and give them all of my business. Otherwise, it is cheaper to trade for.
