Cleveland? Plus, my usual reply to these lists, list without Bend is invalid. It's AARP though, nothing to get wound about.

Have you been to Cleveland? It is a great beer city, especially if you like hops.

I have been to every city on that list and it wouldn't be my top 9, but I have seen worse.

Hell, I've been to Dayton and it seemed like it had an awesome craft beer scene. Turned a "dreaded" work trip into a great one! I'd imagine Cleveland is fantastic, and have been wanting to go there ever since.

The list itself seems pretty solid to me, all in all; San Diego and Chicago are pretty good 1-2 picks.

Cleveland, Columbus, Cinci and Dayton all have very good beer scenes. No lack of good beer in Ohio.

No Asheville means that this article loses all credibility.

I can agree that Asheville belongs on any short list.

Buffalo should start getting credit. A lot of great breweries and bars

I know it would be hard to do but New England needs some representation on here (I know, I know, spoken like a true homer). How MA, VT and ME could all be left out is beyond me... However, the article does list about every beercation destination I'd like to explore.

Well, the truth is that Asheville is a backwoods, over-homered, Portland-like outpost. No accolades are necessary. None of this matters. There are just so many good places, and Asheville is gonna make it one day! Again!

No surprises, but I liked the stat that Portland beer sales are 43.5% craft. To me that ratio of craft sales to total beer sales (i.e the BMC's) probably tells which city has the best craft beer culture amongst the total population or not. Damn,43.5% is a high number. Awesome!

I'm guessing Bend and Asheville were too small for consideration for this list.

Surprised by Cleveland, but it's been almost ten years since I've been there. Same with San Fran, although I've only been away five years there. The list was well split between places with numerous breweries and places with numerous beer bars. I don't think of many local breweries when I think of the Philly or San Fran scenes. However, Portland, San Diego, and Grand Rapids are all about the local breweries to me.

Agree that Cleveland is a great beer town-this being from a Pittsburgher! No Asheville huh? I have no idea how we support so many breweries.

Curious how NYC isn't on this list. Not saying that as a homer plug. There are just so many great breweries here and more on the rise. Other Half, Singlecut, Grimm, Three's, Finback. Would also think NE needs some representation on this list... Burlington, Portland just two that come to mind.

Also why are we trusting a retired person's source of info?

I'm not a rabid Asheville booster, but if one hasn't been to the city, it will surprise you with it's great cordiality, pretty good beer, and gorgeous setting. Like I've said before, the carnival that is Asheville never stops, and it will get into your blood! I loved Asheville long before beer had anything to do with the place. Let me start on the history.......

Regarding San Fran: Kinda strange no mention of Toronado, Zeitgeist, Cellarmaker, and City Beer Store. Also strange about Monk's Kettle - a really nice place, don't get me wrong, but worthy of mention in this brand of article? Eh.

Also: Chicago! Yes indeed. Kick-ass breweries and beer bars: Haymarket, Hopleaf, Sheffield's, and a slew of others.
