Was chatting with local brewer, and he asked if I'd ever had any single hop beers with Galaxy, as he's thinking about brewing one. I couldn't think that I had. I looked up Galaxy SMASH beers here, there were a few, but not many that were reviewed. How many of y'all have had one of these brews, and what did y'all think? What's the thoughts on the hop in general?

Madtree Brewing in Cincinnati does Galaxy High which is a fantastic beer and 450 North in Indiana does Galaxyfest. I love the galaxy hop, so I would tell your guy to jump on the bandwagon.

<3 Galaxy Hops. Double Galaxy is great. Night Shift also released a single hop a while back that was delicious.

Schlafly Tasmainian IPA is fantastic and all Galaxy.

Maybe the best IPA that comes out of the central Midwest imho...

New Holland also releases a Galaxy version of Hatter: Tasmanian Hatter. But I can't speak to how good it is, as I've not had it myself.

I forgot to add that I prefer Galaxy over Citra. I find that it has a more balancing effect on a beer. I find it more bitter on the finish as the fruit profile isn't as 'sweet'. This is a personal preference based on my palate. I know people love their Citra!

It's a bretted ipa, but Crooked Stave's Hop Savant Galaxy is a great beer.

I just brewed an almost all Galaxy (some Columbus) IPA and it turned out great. Just tell him to do it.

Eureka (w Galaxy), Galaxy Hero, Double Galaxy, Other Half Galaxy, Derivative: Galaxy

Galaxy is not my favorite hop. There is something about the green/earthy/dank qualities of Galaxy that I find off putting. I much prefer the same beer when brewed with citra or mosaic hops. The above list, however, were all good beers and the ones by which I judge the galaxy hop.

My favorite hop. Not sure what you can get locally but some of my favorites include Treehouse Green and Trillium Congress Street. Longtrail did a Smash Series that included a Galaxy/ Pilsner Malt IPA that was great. My favorite homebrew IPA recipe is pretty much the malt bill from heady topper scaled down slightly with a little Columbus and a heck of a lot of Galaxy.

Galaxy is one of my top 3 favorite hops (Nelson and Citra being the other 2). I've had several single hop galaxy beers, and they were all fantastic, so I say go for it! Specifically I love the passion fruit aroma and flavor it provides!

Galaxy hops are among my favorites! Carton's double dry hopped 07747 is amazing, OH Galaxy as well, and of course TH Green.

I believe (but am not positive) that Anchorage Brewing Company's Galaxy White IPA is solely hopped with Galaxy. It is certainly the predominant hop in that beer. I would say this beer single-handedly jump-started my interest in this hop, and got me off the Citra/Amarillo/Simcoe/Mosaic kick my home-brewing had begun to exclusively revolve around. (Though I still love all those!).

I would say that there is something about that hop which is peculiarly suited to Belgian yeasts, also brett, also fermenting in wood, ergo I agree 100% with @KCUnited reference to Crooked Stave's Hop Savant Galaxy variation. Fuck! I wish I had one or the other of these two beers, right now. (at work)

Isn't Trillium Congress Street mostly Galaxy hops? I don't think it's a SMaSH beer but the galaxy is sooo good in it.

Night Shift did a Galaxy in their One Hop This Time series last summer. It was outstanding, with a prominent cantaloupe aroma and taste.
