About to pop a Stone barrel aged New Desecrator. It's a black Barleywine aged in bourbon barrels for 13 months. Been looking forward to this one!

I have recently discovered the same issue. What good is a cellar full of great beers if the beers turn to garbage by the time you drink them? I've been drinking 2014 Backwoods Bastard (too barnyard funky) and 2014 BBPT5 (losing its punch fast) like it's going out of style.

I have recently started to document a strict plan for all the beers I purchase. I needed the focus. My cellar was getting out of control. Some beers like Bell's Expedition Stout I will let ride for 10+ years but many others need to be consumed now.

While I still enjoy drinking some beers that I know are past their prime, I now realize that they should have been enjoyed much earlier. I'm documenting this information to pass along to my children. I'm a firm believer in learning from my mistakes and other's mistakes.

Thanks for the info, Archie. I have bottles of Backwoods Bastard from 2012 and 2013, plus some 2014 BBPt5, so I'll move them to the top of my 'next' list. Maybe I need to start drinking something from my cellar everyday. If my spreadsheet is accurate I have 109 various bottles in the basement, so the next 3 months should be interesting. That can't be all bad.

This was my choice as well. I immediately started planning my trip back to grab another bottle or two, what an excellent stout for the $!

Drinking the 2015 BCBS. Pretty remarkable how consistent this beer is from year to year (at least the base beer, that is, haha).

Two excellent BA beers tonight: Tyranena Wrath of Rocky ( bourbon barreled imperial brown ale) and 3 Sheeps Midnight Bourbon (Imperial black wheat ale). Midnight Bourbon was fantastic, a little sad that it was my last bottle.

Just had 2016 last night, but I've been hanging onto a bottle of 2015 for the same purpose. How do they compare?

2015 aged really, really well. Developed sweeter notes overall. Sweet bourbon, fudgy chocolate, vanilla, light coffee notes. 2016 was really smooth right out of the gate! Barrel was a bit bigger in the 2016 I think.

Thanks for the comparison! I can't wait to do the same. It's a winner from Weyerbacher.
