Ithaca 18th Anniversary Baltic Porter

 

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday!

Last bottle I have for now. Still delicious! Juicy hop flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, mango, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, and pine; with some light caramel/bready malt balance and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Aggressive pine/citrus rind bitter, dry, and sticky/resinous finish. Always love it.


Awesome Black DIPA. Juicy hop flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with balanced chocolate, cocoa, toasted dark bread, and light coffee/smoky malts. Nice sized pine/citrus rind/roasted bitter finish; with balanced hop stickiness and malt creaminess in the mouthfeel. Moderately dry and delicious! This was my last of the 4 pack I got from my sister for xmas. I hope to try more Odell beers sometime in the future.


Last 2012 vintage I have. WOW. Huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge, molasses, toffee, toast, and light smoke/char maltiness; with subtle dark fruit/licorice and herbal/piney hops. Balanced bittersweet roasted finish; with an incredible silky and lush full body. Dangerously smooth with near zero alcohol warming. I always love this stuff with age. It turns into dark chocolate cake in a bottle after 3 years. I need to go buy some more to start aging again. I still have a fair amount of 13 and 14's left.


Last years batch is tasting incredible! Huge flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and light-moderate licorice/dark fruits. Balanced bourbon/oak spiciness and roasted bitterness on the finish; with a full bodied creamy/silky and fairly slick mouthfeel. Smooth finish with a small lingering warming with zero booziness. Completely mellowed out now on the booziness vs fresh; with amazing balance between the coffee, malt, and barrel flavors. I only have 1 bottle left from last year; but I just got a fresh 4 pack last week. Should probably go get more for good measure too.

I woke up at my usual predawn hour in hopes of catching a beautiful sunrise. Sometimes nature's elements have other ideas and don't align. I'm relaxing now and tweaking a few shots of some clouds with a beer that's been getting a lot of buzz lately. I happened across some Sunday Morning Stout Friday in my Michigan travels and figured this a good opportunity to crack one open.

I've read all the reviews and posts and how many refer to it as the KBS killer. I did a side by side with the two last summer and I chose KBS as being my favorite. I was very curious as to how this beer was fresh as the one I rated was a bit aged. It's a beautiful looking beer with a full nose of coffee and dark chocolate. The flavor throws me a bit as I'm getting some anise/licorice flavor and a bit of a bitter finish. Not much barrel either for my palate.

In short it's a really solid coffee stout. I'm let down that there isn't a stronger barrel presence, but I can live with that. I'll cellar some to see where it goes and if that licorice-like flavor subsides? I'm hoping more dark chocolate flavor emerges. I'll buy again in the future if our paths cross, but I wouldn't go out of my way searching. I guess I'm still a KBS guy. It was nice to actually rock the Weyerbacher glass that @jzeilinger sent a while back with the actual product!

AleWerks Bitter Valentine DIPA.

 

Good morning BAs! After yesterday's beautiful sunny and 60 weather, we're back to gray skies - at least it's still somewhat warm. Down at the strip district (PGH) yesterday, was just massively clotted with people, some in shorts, enjoyinf the weather. Nice to see that parking charges have doubled since last season, but first yinz gots ta find a place to park. Today's breakfast beer:

Had a really enjoyable time in Columbus Saturday - it was nearly 70 degrees and sunny! Crazy weather for February!

My daughter and I visited a few breweries and had brunch at Wolf Ridge - super delicious and the beers were great!

Also a nice walk at Scioto Audobon MetroPark along the river and great views of downtown.....

Getting my Juju on in the meantime...super fresh, super local and super tasty!

Good morning, BA's. It's a beautiful mild morning at the Jersey Shore. Maybe Punxsutawney Phil got it right this year. At least this morning, Spring's in the air! We're going to have a nice brunch and a walk through Corson's Inlet State Park before heading back north. NBS awaits!
