These are the only two missing from our vertical, do folks know what they're going for these days?

    -Cases of Ann
    -Pounds of gold bullion
    -Cargo ships full of almonds
-Original footage of the Apollo moonlanding
    -The World

These bottles are not traded realistically at all anymore. Beer that actually tastes good can't even land them either.

I've seen the 3/3/3 up for trade in the past for less than a case of Ann.

    Figured asking couldn't hurt

    hah.

yeah, if you actually have the ammo to get 02.02.02. (you probably don't) you want to go on a serious soul searching session about whether or not you care if you complete the vertical.

i don't mean to make anyone's choices for them, but honestly i think the only realistic "should i trade for 02.02.02.?" thought experiment has to start with "well, my crazy beer geek friends and i have a vertical epic party planned, and i want to make sure that it's perfect for me and my 6+ friends." otherwise, if you actually have the kind of ammo that will land this 12 year old low ABV wheat beer, you're on your way to bad decision land if you decide to chase after this whale.

03.03.03 is to 02.02.02. as heady topper is to ann.

Haha, well, I wasn't sure what exactly it was going for because I know it's not supposed to have aged well :stuck_out_tongue:. Was mostly just looking for feedback because a friend who doesn't trade regularly asked about it...and I honestly haven't paid too much attention to the trade value of the Vertical Epics...Looks like a 3/3/3 is a possibility, maybe we'll just start there haha.

yeah, 03.03.03. shouldn't be a problem, it pops up on this forum pretty regularly [edit: regularly for a beer that old; not like pliny/zombie dust/heady regularly, but a lot more regularly than 02.02.02, PiaPT, 1-off cantillons, etc].

02.02.02. is a possibility too, but i still advise against trading for it unless you have 1) lots of people ready for a really memorable tasting, or 2) are doing one of those trades where it's like, "you bring your 02.02.02. to our VE tasting, and i'll do X," (where X is NOT "give you every valuable beer i own").

I wouldn't even want to try 02.02.02, a 10+ year old 7.5% witbier, ya no thanks. But if you are determined to get it, I wouldn't trade crazy for it, 03's should be much easier and much better.

If you were planning a vertical you should have traded for 2/2/2 years ago as it is going to cost not only more beer to get it but pretty much everything you send will most likely be a lot better than 2/2/2 at it's best forget about now.

Do you really want to trade the best beers you own, all of them, for one bottle of a beer that was mediocre to begin with and probably tastes like rancid bread water at this point?

If you were to take a picture of the tasting at which you drink it, have it printed on a nice thick piece of stock, then eat the picture, that picture will taste better than drinking 02/02/02.

I can't wait till the day after everyone drinks the entire vertical and the first person says "the 02/02/02 held up very well"

    I'm going to belly laugh.

I remember one being offered straight up for a (2011?) Sam Adams Utopias. Not sure when that was though, probably before the site changed b/c I can't find it.

It may be a tired suggestion, but find a homebrewer friend that you really trust, give him $50 for ingredients and invite him to the tasting. 3.5 months is plenty of time for a beer like this to be in good condition for tasting. And 5 gallons >>> 22 oz.

My friend has 03.03.03 through the most recent release and is just planning to homebrew a clone of 02.02.02 for the vertical, which honestly will probably be a lot better than a 10 year old witbier.

Completing verticals is overrated, especially for a beer rated at 84. It's not about the beer at this point -- it's the Pokemon factor.

Kinda off topic, but are folks starting to plan these tastings? Just found out I have a bottle of 03-03-03 buried at the back of my cellar (and an 8-8-8). You think that is enough to wrangle at least an invitation to a vertical tasting?

Well we have people trading for infected beers now for infected tastings - so why not?

I have 03-11 and am having a tasting with 03-12. My decision. Not to trade for 02.02.02.

I am trying to do 2 things. 1. Have Thorpe429 send me a bottle of his 02 clone or 2. Have another buddy of mine who did a clone of 02 with his homebrew club send me one of his (Mitch Steele actually helped brew this clone)

    Cheers!

also have 03-11 & saving them for a tasting, preferably FosterJM's lol

side note: traded a 2011 BT & some hoppy west coast beers for the 03, hope that helps!
