Ended up pulling in a 13 hour day at work without any break and forgetting to have dinner. Decided to grab some food and drink on my way home, so stopped at Bosque Brewery. Enjoyed a Southwest Session IPA (pictured) and a taster of Not Just For Fun Black IPA, paired with a Italian Sandwich.

Now back home listening to some Soundgarden.

Sinister Vertigo pours a dark black oily appearance with zero light escaping its behemoth-like grasp. The head is short lived but mocha colored and bubbly.

Dark aromas of bittersweet chocolate chips, dark cherries, figs, coffee, and molasses. It's a textbook winning imperial stout nose. Let's see if the taste follows suit.

This one mellows out on the taste right away - the alcohol isn't prominent nor is it center stage like with so many Imperial Stouts. This is a nice change, and it lends to a delectable smoothness that makes it easy to drink. It leads off with coffee grounds and mocha, following with flavors of dirt/earth, sticky syrups of fig and plum, and black mashed cherries. A hair-raising alcohol spike hits at the finish. My wish is for more chocolate, but I can live with this.

Feel is hot, creamy, and buzzing with carbonation. The finish leaves a stickiness and dryness from alcohol and ends just right.

Overall this Imperial Stout is one of my new favorites. Beyond great, and really - a world class beer that even lends itself to careful sessionability because of its utter smoothness.

Not taking the time to provide pics, but it's been a Ballast Point couple of days. Pineapple Sculpin on tap yesterday while talking to a lovely lass. A 32 of Watermelon Dorado followed by some base Dorado this evening. Wow, just wow.

    Finishers:

My main go-to American Porter. Big robust flavors of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, and dark bready malts with balanced earthy/herbal hop flavors; and herbal/roasted bitterness. Nicely balanced creamy/bready and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel. Light-medium drying finish. Such a classic example of the style. Probably my most purchased Bells beer in the last couple years.

Great IPA. Flavors of big peach, mango, pineapple, papaya, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, and light peppery hops; with moderate malts of caramel/toasted bread and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Balancing pine/grassy bitterness; moderately dry with a sticky/resinous mouthfeel some balancing creaminess. Really glad I ended up getting a 6 pack of this. I still prefer Centennial as my Founders go-to IPA, but this is really delicious too. I find the malt/hop balance of both to be pretty similar; but this one feels a bit more dry from the hop character. Definitely would buy it again. Almost done with this 6 pack, but will probably revert back to good ol' Centennial again.

6 month old bottling. Tasting excellent! Flavors of huge milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toffee, and fudge; with light-moderate cinnamon/earthy chile pepper flavor and light smoke/char maltiness. Nice bittersweet creamy/silky full bodied finish; with light sticky/chalky roast/spice character in the mouthfeel. Mild hints of pepper spice and heat. This is definitely one of the more approachable Mexican stouts out there, definitely better fresher rather than later. I've always really enjoyed it every time I've had it. The fresher the better.
