Was fooling around with Google Maps for another project and I decided to update my Franconian map.

Check it out here -- currently operating breweries (best to my knowledge) as well as ones that have closed since 2002 (when I started keeping track) and highlighting those that have opened since 2002.

The closed ones probably aren't complete as I didn't have GPS locations for some of the early ones that closed (and didn't bother going back and getting them) and I wouldn't be surprised if I forgot to record the starting year of some of the new ones -- but it gives you a general idea.

And before somebody complains -- I've included those in "Tauber Franken" -- the part of Franconia that is now in Baden-Württemberg (if you've every been to Gold Ochsenbräu in Spielbach -- no doubt it is Franconian  )

Cool map! Tucher only brews in Furth? No Nürn anymore? Lederer too? Also, there was a small brewery in Rothenburg that opened and then closed shortly thereafter, around 2012... Brauhaus Rothenburg. I had a couple of their biers back then..... I've always seen the Gold Ochsenbräu bier in Rothenburg in the past.... not lately. Never got out to Spielbach, though. Looking at a map, it looks like it's very tiny....

    Prosit!!!

I actually have them in my database, but I never had an address for them (so they don't show on the map). One of the criteria I use to determine if it is a "commercial brewery" rather than a hobby is you must be able to get the beer at a regular place at regular times. IIRC, for a long time you had to call the guy's mobile phone and arrange a meeting to buy the beer. I think he eventually found a regular outlet but by the time I found out about it he had closed. This was true with one brewery in the area -- I think this was the one

Yeah, I was able to buy a bottle in a local market, and another style I had in a Gasthof in town. Long gone, though. ... Cheers

I'm surprised you missed off the actual Geif Brau on Serlbacher Str. There is a bar at the Brewery that is open to the public.

Good eye -- I had the correct address of the brewery but the GPS location was that of the old tap room on Sattlertorstrasse. That was from back in the day when I collected waypoints with my trusty old Garmin GPS
